The special Eurovision club Malmö belongs to

The 2024 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest will be held in Malmö, Sweden.

It's not a large city with just 357,00 residents, although if you count the metropolitan area it jumps to 700,000 - about the size of the Gold Coast.

But despite its smaller size, it's part of a special club of just six cities worldwide.

And what is this club?

It's the cities that have held the Eurovision Song Contest on at least three occasions.

Malmö hosted Eurovision in 1992, then again in 2013 (with this year's host Petra Mede), and now in 2024.

The other cities that have hosted Eurovision at least three times are:

  1. Dublin, Ireland: 6 times

  2. London, UK: 4 times

  3. Luxembourg City, Luxembourg: 4 times

  4. Stockholm, Sweden: 3 times

  5. Copenhagen, Denmark: 3 times

Malta, Greece and The Netherlands finished Top 10 at both editions of the Contest in Malmö in 1992 and 2013.

They'll no doubt be hoping for a hat trick!

The cities that have hosted the Contest twice and could join Malmö in the special club in 2025 are:

  • The Hague, The Netherlands

  • Cannes, France

  • Oslo, Norway

  • Jerusalem, Israel

  • Vienna, Austria

  • Kyiv, Ukraine

We'll have to wait until May to see if one of these cities has a chance of hosting.

The Eurovision Song Contest takes place on 7, 9 and 11 May 2024.
