The Roop will represent Lithuania in Rotterdam for Eurovision 2021
Since mid January Lithuania put 20 acts through their paces in the Lithuanian National Final ‘Pabandom iš naujo’ 2021 to see who will compete against The Roop in the final and ultimately be selected as their Eurovision 2021 representative.
Over two heats 10 out of the 20 competing acts progressed through a semi final which was held last week. The top five in the semi final progressed to the final in an ultimate battle against The Roop, which was held on February 6 in Europe (February 7 in Australia).
The Roop were set to represent Lithuania at Eurovision after winning ‘Pabandom iš naujo’ last year. They became hot favourites to take out the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 with their entry, ‘On Fire’. Unfortunately as we all know Covid-19 struck and the contest was cancelled.
‘On Fire’ came third in Australia’s Eurovision 2020 poll for ‘Eurovision: Big Night In!’ which was on SBS back in May 2020. In the OGAE song poll voted by the international body of Eurovision Fans The Roop won.
After the release of The Roop’s entry ‘Discoteque' for ‘Pabandom iš naujo’ 2021 on January 22 they created a buzz yet again. Lithuania shot up in the betting odds to take out the Eurovision Song Contest. ‘Discoteque’ the song and music video, which features the band in yellow outfits with a striking overall aesthetic for the video has garnered nearly 4 million streams and views on Spotify and YouTube combined, and remains the most popular Eurovision national final song so far.
The Roop took out the final of ‘Pabandom iš naujo’, winning both the jury and public televoting.
The televoting results:
1. THE ROOP 74512 votes (a whopping 86.6% of the public vote!)
2. Gebrasy 6413 votes
3. Martyna 2453 votes
4. Voldemars Petersons 1224 votes
5. Titas & Benas 1094 votes
6. Evita Cololo 427 votes
The jury results:
1. THE ROOP 84 points
2. Gebrasy 70 points
3. Voldemars Petersons 51 points
4. Evita Cololo 47 points
5. Titas & Benas 44 points
6. Martyna 40 points
The Roop will now get their ultimate chance to represent Lithuania in the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 in Rotterdam.
