The Roop release their Eurovision national final 2021 entry 'Discoteque'

The Lithuanian band, The Roop, were hot favourites to take out the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 with their entry, ‘On Fire’. Unfortunately as we all know Covid-19 struck and the contest was cancelled.

In the OGAE song poll voted by the international body of Eurovision Fans ‘On Fire’ came in at first place and was selected as the favourite Eurovision 2020 entry. The Roop reached the top 5 in the annual Eurojury competition and the top 3 in Eurostream, a project which was brought together by over 20 Eurovision fan sites.

‘On Fire’ came third in Australia’s Eurovision 2020 poll for ‘Eurovision: Big Night In!’ which was on SBS back in May 2020. In the OGAE song poll voted by the international body of Eurovision Fans The Roop won.

Well now it’s 2021 and The Roop are back taking part in the Lithuanian national final 'Pabandom iš naujo!' yet again, this time with their new single, ‘Discoteque’, released today!

The band have been dropping hints about their release over the last few days through their socials. They said:

“The new song "Discoteque" is not a copy of "On Fire". That's what we wanted the least. However, one thing that is in common (apart from band members) is that both sound somewhat unusual. And we love it!”

Their Lithuanian national final winning entry, ‘On Fire’, from last year was all about the quirk, which captivated Lithuania, where their entry won the televote and jury votes (a landslide in the televoting!).

The band first competed in a Lithuanian national final to get a ticket to Eurovision back in 2018 in ‘„Eurovizijos“ dainų konkurso nacionalinė atranka’ with ‘Yes, I Do’. It came third, that year Ieva Zasimauskaitė had the honour in representing Lithuania at Eurovision with her song ‘When We're Old’.

This year The Roop have been handed a direct ticket to the 'Pabandom iš naujo!' final, where they will compete against 5 other acts that got through their heats and the semi final.

Luckily we won’t have to wait until the final to see them perform their new entry. They are set to perform ‘Discoteque’ in Heat 2 this weekend.

Heat 2 of 'Pabandom iš naujo!’ 2021 will be on January 23 in Europe and January 24 in Australia.
