The Eurovision voting history between Serbia and Australia

The last week has seen some cooling of relations between Australia and Serbia thanks to the ongoing saga of vaccinations and visas in regards to Novak Djokovic.

Eurovision fans have also questioned whether this could impact the votes at Eurovision between the two nations.

So with these concerns, we thought we'd take a look at the Eurovision points between the two countries.

Australia - points given to Serbia

Since joining in 2015, Australia has had nine opportunities in semi-finals and Grand Finals to vote for Serbia.

Australia has given points to Serbia on six of those occasions.

2015: Bojana Stamenov - 'Beauty Never Lies'

Semi-final: 12 points from the combined televote/jury

Grand Final: 6 points combined televote/jury

2016: Sanja Vučić - 'Goodbye (Shelter)'

Grand Final: 0 points

2018: Sanja Ilić & Balkanika - 'Nova Deca'

Serbia - points given to Australia

Who is more generous?

Looking at the average points given, there is no doubt Serbia has given more points to Australia since 2015.

Australia to Serbia

Average semi-final points given: 4.5

Average Grand Final points given: 1.8

Serbia to Australia

Average semi-final points given: 10.6

Average Grand Final points given: 5

However, Australia has had much stronger results, so naturally those points should be higher.

Comparison to the average European nation

If we analyse the average points every country gave to each of these nations (when they could vote for them), it tells a slightly different story.

Australia to Serbia

Average points given to Serbia by Eurovision nations: 3.8

Average points given to Serbia by Australia: 3.1

Difference of -0.7

Serbia to Australia

Average points given to Australia by Eurovision nations: 9.0

Average points given to Australia by Serbia: 7.1

Difference of -1.9

So all in all, it's been quite even without any nation massively favouring the other or not.

Both Australia and Serbia have been pretty much on par of how Europe votes for them.

But will this change in 2022 because of the fall-out of Novak Djokovic?

We hope music will rise above any politics and tennis and won't have an impact.

Only time, and the semi-final allocation draw, will tell.
