The Eurovision trophy breaks... again

It has only been just over one month since Eurovision 2025 in Basel Switzerland was won by JJ from Austria.

In what is becoming a regular occurrence with Eurovision winners, the glass microphone trophy has been broken again, this time by JJ!!!

This comes on top of Eurovision 2024 in Malmö, Sweden, when Nemo broke their trophy on stage at the winner’s presentation.

In an interview with TV presenter Barbara Schöneberger, JJ sheepishly confirmed the mishap:

"My trophy has already been replaced twice - both times it broke." The glass trophy "broke right in the middle of the case".

Apparently, it was "poorly glued or built", according to the 24-year-old.

Other Eurovision winners to break their glass trophy

JJ and Nemo are not the only Eurovision winners to have broken their trophy in recent years.

Some past winners, as follows, have broken the glass microphone:

• Alexander Rybak (Norway) – 2009

• Emmelie de Forest (Denmark) – 2013

• Netta (Israel) – 2018

• Duncan Laurence (Netherlands) - 2019

Since 2008, the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest takes home the iconic glass microphone. This trophy is a custom design, especially created for Eurovision.

The unique hand-made piece of art in the shape of a classic microphone is made of solid transparent glass with sand-blasted and painted detailing.

Is it perhaps time for a redesign of the Eurovision trophy?

We'll see if the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest in Austria in 2026 is able to keep their trophy intact!
