Earlier in the month Romania announced the internal selection of Roxen for Eurovision this year. Overnight the young Romanian treated us to the five songs - one of which will be the Romanian entry for Rotterdam 2020. Roxen didn't hold back building suspense for the online fandom - dropping the album covers followed by 30 second snippets in the lead up to release. In a different format to previous years the national final Selecția Națională will be used in miniature form to choose her song with a 50/50 jury-televote split.
Roxen appeared on local the local TV series Rai Da' Buni to discuss the songs - she did indicate her preference to singing ballads, feeling most comfortable performing them stated both during the show and in the Eurovision Romania Facebook group. Although no outright favourite was confirmed by the artist she did have a very noticeable positive reaction to 'Alcohol You' when discussed. She wasn't the only one with 'Alcohol You' being a firm favourite in the online Romanian Eurovision fan community. Looking towards the rest of the world 'Cherry Red' certainly caused a storm on twitter last night and currently has the most views on Youtube.
The show and song selection will air on local station TVR on March 1, 2020.
The songs are:
Alcohol You
Composers: Ionuț Armas, Viky Red & Breyan Isaac
With co-writer Breyan Isaac attributed to hits such as Inna 'Cola Song', Olly Murs 'Troublemaker', Pitbull 'Timber', David Guetta 'What I Did For Love' and Flo Rida 'Whistle' this song certainly has pedigree. The song title is a play on words with alcohol you transforming into I'll call you during the lyrics of the song itself.
Cherry Red
Composers: Theea Miculescu, Sebastian Barac, Marcel Botezan & Costel Dominteanu
Another song produced in the blue of the Romanian music industry - Cherry Red is a quintessential Romanian radio song with lots of deep house to sink your teeth into. It is not surprising it has caught the eye of the international community.
Beautiful Disaster
Composers: Alex Cotoi, Julie Frost & Breyan Isaac
This dark and moody number has some potential for standout staging!
Colors
Composers: Alex Cotoi, Julie Frost & Breyan Isaac
With upbeat, summery vibes this pretty pop song has lots to like.
Storm
Composers: Minelli & Viky Red
A classic empowering pop-song Roxen pops with the catchy chorus.
