With five Eurovision Song Contests completed this decade, how is each nation faring?

In an ongoing series, the Aussievision team will rate the performance of each Eurovision nation in alphabetical order.

We’ll look back at their results from 2021 to 2025, their qualification record, give our team’s rating, and see how they stack up against other countries.

Sweden's Eurovision results of the 2020s

  • 2021: Tusse - Voices: 14th in Grand Final

  • 2022: Cornelia Jakobs - Hold Me Closer: 4th in Grand Final

  • 2023: Loreen - Tattoo: 1st in Grand Final

  • 2024: Marcus and Martinus - Unforgettable: 9th in Grand Final

  • 2025: KAJ - Bara bada bastu: 4th in Grand Final

  • Top 10s: 4

  • Qualifications: 100%

Team rating of Sweden: 91.7%

We asked the Aussievision team to rate Sweden's Eurovision 2020s entries on a scale of 1 (lowest) to 10 (highest).

This gave us an average overall score from the twelve contributors who voted. We then converted that into a percentage.

Sweden's score was: 91.7%

The scores ranged from a 8/10 to 10/10, with six contributors giving Sweden a score of 9/10.

"Holy moly this list is impressive, the clear standout here is Cornelia. Any other year, she may have won another title for Sweden. Melfest is a force of nature and its clear the music industry in Sweden is strong. Sweden really are the best at Eurovision, and their results are proof - 4 top tens this decade alone, and many countries would kill for their "worst" place of 14th." ~ Hayley

"It hasn't been a great decade for Melfest, but in my view it has been a great decade for Sweden at Eurovision. Any country which can send Cornelia Jakobs, Loreen and KAJ in the space of four years (noting that the other two were pretty strong as well) deserves the success they're receiving. I'd love to see a return to the really strong Melfests of the 2010s rather than the coronations that they have felt like in the 2020s, but I'm not going to let national final drama blind me to the obvious success the Swedes are having." ~ Craig

"Although I could give a high mark because of Cornelia Jakobs and Loreen, the selection of Tusse, Marcus & Martinus, and KAJ really threw off the bus. I kid you not, Sweden will have full control of the Eurovision world if it wins its eighth victory, and if they want to do that, they have to send the likes of Klara Hammarstrom, Dolly Style, Dotter, Meira Omar, Scarlet, Greczula, any big name Sweden can throw." ~ John Christian

"Basically the whole world consumes Swedish pop whether they know it or not, so it stands to reason Sweden reigns supreme at ESC in the 2020s." ~ Troy

"Since Anna Bergendahl's outrageous non-qualification in 2010, Sweden has almost been flawless in Eurovision. Since 2011 they have never finished outside the top 14, come in the top five 11 times, come top three 5 times, and won three times. I haven't scored them perfectly this decade so far because apart from Loreen's win they are yet to crack the top three with any other entry. Swedes will also be disappointed that bookies' favourites this year KAJ didn't do better. There is a bit of Sweden fatigue in Europe I am sensing, so I feel like another win won't be for a while. I feel pretty confident this incredible high placement streak will continue. However in my opinion Sweden would be best advised to ditch the age based voting system in their national final. The current system favours younger and older voters resulting in more safe entries being selected. Either the teenager and young adults categories should be weighted heavier to favour more current and bolder entries, or they should revert back to an equal vote policy. Otherwise there is the real risk a middle of the road song is unexpectedly selected and throws off Sweden's impressive run." ~ Sam
