With five Eurovision Song Contests completed this decade, how is each nation faring?
In an ongoing series, the Aussievision team will rate the performance of each Eurovision nation in alphabetical order.
We’ll look back at their results from 2021 to 2025, their qualification record, give our team’s rating, and see how they stack up against other countries. It is noted that Moldova withdrew from the 2025 Contest.
Moldova's Eurovision results of the 2020s
2021: Natalia Gordienko - Sugar: 13th in Grand Final
2022: Zdob și Zdub and Advahov Brothers - Trenulețul: 7th in Grand Final
2023: Pasha Parfeni – Soarele şi luna: 18th in Grand Final
2024: Natalia Barbu - In the middle: 13th in Semi-Final (Did not qualify)
Top 10s: 25%
Qualifications: 75%
Team rating of Moldova: 63.7%
We asked the Aussievision team to rate Malta's Eurovision 2020s entries on a scale of 1 (lowest) to 10 (highest).
This gave us an average overall score from the eight contributors who voted. We then converted that into a percentage.
Moldova's score was: 63.7%.
The scores ranged from a 6/10 to a 7/10, with three team members rating 7/10 and five members rating 6/10.
Team comments
"I would rate Moldova's performance this decade so far as slightly above average. One top ten and one non-qualification across a few year period is pretty stock standard for them. Extra mark because they came 2nd in the tele-vote in 2022, an incredible feat for a country with just over 2 million people. Interestingly this decade the country has solely been represented by artists who have competed at Eurovision in the past. Whilst I have concerns about this seemingly shallow talent pool, returning Moldovan artists (except for Natalia Barbu) often deliver sound occasionally excellent results, so this could be a trend to keep tapping into for now." ~ Sam
"There is no denying - people love Moldova at Eurovision. For a tiny nation - they do alright you know!" ~ Hayley
"Give me some Sugar!" ~ Troy
