Hard to not give a decent ranking to a country that has won it once. Having said that, obviously JJ is the standout in otherwise a string of lower end placings. It'll be interesting if his success sets a new standard for Austria in the remainder of this decade and if they can move up to the likes of Italy and Sweden who consistently get top 10 finishes. ~ Kiel

With a couple of not-so-successful entries kicking off the 2020s, Austria managed to turn things around and get themselves a Eurovision victory! Their method of including Eurovision fans (OGAE Austria) in the decision-making process for their internal selections has contributed significantly to their recent run of good results and entries that are beloved in the fan community, with JJ’s uniqueness as a performer being a critical factor in delivering Austria their first Eurovision win in 11 years. It will be interesting to see if Austria’s approach to the contest will continue to bring them Eurovision success. ~ Laura

Any country that has won Eurovision this decade will automatically have a high score in this poll series. However, out of the countries that have won this decade, I would say Austria has the poorest record. Outside of their win they have only received 21 points from the televote in the Grand Final. In their 2025 win they only came fourth in the televote. So televoting wise there is room for improvement. It will be interesting to see whether next year they can break their disastrous performance as a host nation. Austrian entries when they host have on average received one point. Austria should not be complacent like they have in the past and let the win go to their head. They should keep being bold and send eclectic or very up-tempo entries as this formula seems to be working for them in the middle of this decade. ~ Sam

A broadcaster with clear momentum and a desire to succeed which appears to match the moment. Notably, I think Austria's success largely hasn't been in finding the "authentic" artists floating around just doing their own thing (which was at the centre of fan discourse around 2021). On the contrary, they have proudly embraced songwriting camps, arguably gimmicky concepts like the Edgar Allan Poe song, and feel very focused on finding acts which are defined by how well they will do in the Eurovision bubble. It's paying off for them - this is a pretty fun run of songs - but one wonders if the tide will go out again eventually. ~ Craig

Austria raises the stakes in 2023 when the party banger "Who the Hell is Edgar?" came out, and thought it was dead and buried with "We Will Rave" the following year despite its early reception, but "Wasted Love" exceeds beyond expectations and as soon as the song came out, it became one of the contenders for the title. Weeks before the show itself, Austria was one of the frontrunners for the jury vote winner, but as soon as Sweden's televotes came in, it became clear that Austria would win if there are enough votes to overtake Israel, to the surprise of many. ~ John Christian

Austria built great momentum and steadily raised expectations of what they could deliver this decade, with Teya and Selena arguably igniting that fire. Wasted Love is not my jam, but it represents the culmination of a vision and a steady execution of a Eurovision strategy from Austria. The blip with We Will Rave is so undeserved, and I think it was just a bit ahead of the wave or didn’t quite hit the mix of “weird” and “nostalgic” that seems to drive Eurovision success at the moment. Austria deserved to have won the thing and it’s not JJ alone, in my opinion, that delivered it. It’s been on the back of successive, solid performances that has had Austria pegged as strong contenders almost every year this decade. ~ Troy

What I like about Austria this decade is that they have had a vision, executed it, and achieved their win. From 2022, they leaned into European dance-pop, and even though it flopped the first go, they kept at it. The win for JJ this year hinged on that ending, where they relied on the techno/dance element to make it pop and give the song the 'moment' it needed. The nation itself has never had a high rate of qualifying, so its 60% qualification doesn't drag my overall score down too much. I would even consider scoring them higher if it weren't for Amen... ~ Dale
