Overnight the Portuguese entry for the 2021 Junior Eurovision Song Contest was released.

Simão Oliveira will sing the song ‘O Rapaz’ in Paris.

The songwriters for this song are Fernando Daniel and Diogo Clemente, who both have Festival da Canção experience. Fernando Daniel competed in the 2017 edition, finishing fifth in the final, while Diogo Clemente was one of the song writers of Peu Madureira’s song ‘Só Por Ela’, which finished third in 2018.

Simão Oliveira is 13-years-old, and has been singing since the age of four. He was actually the first contestant announced for this year’s Contest all the way back in April after he won The Voice Kids in Portugal.

Portugal are one of several countries returning to the contest this year after withdrawing last year due to the pandemic. They have previously competed at the contest five times, with their best result being the 14th place they earned on debut in 2006 and back in Tblisi in 2017.

Junior Eurovision 2021 will take place in Paris on 19 December 2021, after the victory of France’s Valentina last year with 'J’imagine'.
