Over the past few months, the Aussievision team has been issuing report cards on each of the Eurovision nations who competed at multiple contest in the 2020s.
Each team member rated the country out of 10, not just on the results themselves but how that related to the size and power of the nation, plus their history with Eurovision.
The report card series was to try and understand which nations have truly excelled in the first half of the decade (and those who have not).
Now the series been completed, here are our Top 10 Eurovision nations of the 2020s so far.
10. Lithuania
Aussievision score: 77.2%
Eurovision 2020s results
2021: The Roop – Discoteque – 8th
2022: Monika Liu – Sentimentai – 14th
2023: Monika Linkytė – Stay – 11th
2024: Silvester Belt – Luktelk – 14th
2025: Katarsis – Tavo akys – 16th
Lithuania remains the only Baltic nation to qualify for every Grand Final this decade.
They have built a consistent identity of modern, credible pop that connects both at home and across Europe.
Aussievision team comments:
“I must have a blindspot for Lithuania because I didn’t realise they have been such a consistently strong performer in recent times. Despite sending a diverse array of acts, they seem to be connecting strongly with audiences no matter what they send. Next step is to elevate even further to secure a top 5 finish and compete for victory.” ~ Joel
“The only Baltic country yet to win has had an uber consistent start to the decade. Its current streak of five consecutive qualifications is by far the longest in its history. Every placing this decade so far has been in the Top 16 which is very impressive for a country with less than 3 million people, even if the country has a large diaspora vote.” ~ Sam
9. Estonia
Aussievision score: 80.0%
Eurovision 2020s results
2021: Uku Suviste – The Lucky One – DNQ
2022: Stefan – Hope – 13th
2023: Alika – Bridges – 8th
2024: Ollie – Venom – 18th
2025: Tommy Cash – Espresso Macchiato – 3rd
Estonia has qualified in four of five contests and reached the podium in 2025 with a third-place finish.
After inconsistent results in the late 2010s, Eesti Laul has firmly restored Estonia’s Eurovision strength.
Aussievision team comments:
“Estonia punch well above their weight at Eurovision and have everything but the win at this point to show for it. Bearing in mind Estonia has a population of less than 1.4 million people, what they are achieving at the contest is unreal. Aside from a non-qualification at the start of the decade, a podium finish, two top ten results in total, and four consecutive final appearances is a fantastic result for a nation of this size. Eesti Laul is a brilliant national final and I consider myself very privileged to be able to attend and cover the selection every year for Aussievision. I hope Estonia will be rewarded for their efforts with victory at Eurovision this decade!” ~ Laura
“I have given Estonia a high ranking here because they deserve it. Not a large country but they consistently do well at Eurovision and seem to be on a trajectory for another win. Eesti Laul is one of the best national finals we have with such variety. Well played Estonia.” ~ Hayley
8. Greece
Aussievision score: 80.8%
Eurovision 2020s results
2021: Stefania – Last Dance – 10th
2022: Amanda Georgiadi Tenfjord – Die Together – 8th
2023: Victor Vernicos – What They Say – DNQ
2024: Marina Satti – Zari – 11th
2025: Klavdia – Asteromata – 6th
Greece has qualified for four of five Grand Finals and returned to the Top 10 in 2025.
Their entries have rebalanced pop credibility and Greek identity after a challenging 2010s.
Aussievision team comments:
“Greece have definitely pulled their weight in the 2020s. Three top 10 finishes and four out of five qualifications is a great result. Also Klavdia gave Greece their best result in 12 years. With the national final set to continue it will be interesting to see if their new approach to selecting their entry will give them another top 10 result.” ~ Kyriakos
“Greece has certainly got its groove back at Eurovision after a drop off in the mid 2010s. Apart from the rogue choice of choosing a charismatic but inexperienced 16-year-old as their representative in 2023, Greece’s four top 11 results this decade is impressive. Greece though loses a few marks with me as they have yet to match their scintillating run from the 2000s into the early 2010s. The scale and importance of the Greek pop music industry also means there is room for improvement, especially given they are yet to crack the Top 5 this decade. However kudos to Greece to getting their Eurovision journey back on track.” ~ Sam
7. France
Aussievision team score: 81.1%
Eurovision 2020s results
2021: Barbara Pravi – Voilà – 2nd
2022: Alvan & Ahez – Fulenn – 24th
2023: La Zarra – Évidemment – 16th
2024: Slimane – Mon Amour – 4th
2025: Louane – Maman – 7th
France has achieved three Top 10 finishes this decade and reclaimed consistent credibility on the Eurovision stage.
They have shown that French-language artistry can thrive with the right artist, staging, and song.
Aussievision team comments:
“Three Top 10 finishes for France is a pattern, given the success of Junior Eurovision in the 2020s. If they want to win its first since 1977, they have to keep that formula but tweak a little more flair and pizzazz. Maybe, within the next five years, France might pull off a trick and win it.” ~ John Christian
“France can be proud over this decade so far with three top 10 finishes. Even though Fulenn finished in a shocking 24th place back in 2022 it was a risk they needed to take. The last few years their entry and artist choices have been more calculated and reflect what people expect from France, but it has paid off for them.” ~ Kyriakos
6 Portugal
Aussievision team score: 83.6%
Eurovision 2020s results
2021: The Black Mamba – Love Is on My Side – 12th
2022: Maro – Saudade, saudade – 9th
2023: Mimicat – Ai coração – 23rd
2024: Iolanda – Grito – 10th
2025: Napa – Deslocado – 21st
Portugal has qualified for every Grand Final since 2021 and continued its Eurovision renaissance.
They remain proudly authentic with frequent use of Portuguese and distinctive musical identity.
Aussievision team comments:
“No matter how much you like Portugal at Eurovision (and I do love Portugal at Eurovision) they still sometimes surprise you with their sheer consistency and success. After years in the trenches batting for Maro, Mimicat and Iolanda, I thought that the Iberian nation had finally met their Waterloo with NAPA this year - and yet, they proved me wrong, with possibly their most commercially successful entry this decade! Always surprising, always artistic, always moving - Portugal is the best Eurovision nation of the 2020s in my view, and it's only a matter of time until they get their much-deserved second win.” ~ Craig
“I recall back in 2021 when a lot of people thought Love Is on My Side was a non-qualifier and every year since people almost assume that Portugal may not qualify for the Grand Final but every time they have proven everyone wrong. They have stuck to their own formula, stuck to their own identity, and it has paid off. Five qualifications in a row is their longest streak so far! There is an appetite for Portuguese music at Eurovision!” ~ Kyriakos
5. Switzerland
Aussievision team score: 84.4%
Eurovision 2020s results
2021: Gjon’s Tears – Tout l’univers – 3rd
2022: Marius Bear – Boys Do Cry – 17th
2023: Remo Forrer – Watergun – 20th
2024: Nemo – The Code – 1st
2025: Zoë Më – Voyage – 10th
Switzerland’s turnaround culminated in a 2024 victory and another Top 10 in 2025.
After years of struggle, they are now one of the most dependable performers of the decade.
Aussievision team comments:
“Gotta say, Switzerland really pulled their socks up this decade after some absolutely horrific entries. They found the secret recipe.” ~ Hayley
“One wrong move and Switzerland’s unbeaten streak since 2019 would come to an end in the next five years and everything that has risen from the lowest of lows in four straight non-qualifications in the late 2010s might come back to haunt them. If Switzerland can keep its relevance in the Grand Final, they must play their cards right.” ~ John Christian
4. Finland
Aussievision team score: 88.1%
Eurovision 2020s results
2021: Blind Channel – Dark Side – 6th
2022: The Rasmus – Jezebel – 21st
2023: Käärijä – Cha Cha Cha – 2nd
2024: Windows95man – No Rules! – 22nd
2025: Erika Vikman – Ich komme – 11th
Finland has qualified every year and delivered one of the decade’s defining moments in 2023.
UMK continues to be a launchpad for bold and varied entries particularly loved by Eurofans.
Aussievision team comments:
“If any country has the momentum to clinch a victory, it's Finland. They're bold, genuinely exciting, and deliver exactly what Eurovision audiences didn't even know they were craving.” ~ Joel
“Always punching above their weight, a nation that truly understands Eurovision, which is reflected in their amazing national final UMK every year. They've had some struggles with results in the past but this recent streak is completely clutch.” ~ Liv
3. Ukraine
Aussievision team score: 88.5%
Eurovision 2020s results
2021: Go_A – Shum – 5th
2022: Kalush Orchestra – Stefania – 1st
2023: TVORCHI – Heart of Steel – 6th
2024: alyona alyona & Jerry Heil – Teresa & Maria – 3rd
2025: Ziferblat – Bird of Pray – 9th
Ukraine has reached every Grand Final and delivered five Top 10 results including their 2022 win.
They consistently combine national culture with modern production at a world-class level.
Aussievision team comments:
“After withdrawing in 2019 and the cancelled 2020 edition, Ukraine returned to the contest with a bang. Every entry they've sent has been so uniquely Ukrainian whilst each being completely unique from each other. Result wise they've done exceptionally as well. Ukraine get Eurovision and because of that they've become a modern day powerhouse of the competition.” ~ Cooper
“Sympathy vote isn't enough to get you to win ESC... you need lightning in a bottle. And their track record this decade reflect not just the devastating and intractable war they're locked in, but also really quality cultural offerings. Their success is so deserved.” ~ Troy
2. Italy
Aussievision team score: 90.7%
Eurovision 2020s results
2021: Måneskin – Zitti e buoni – 1st
2022: Mahmood & Blanco – Brividi – 6th
2023: Marco Mengoni – Due vite – 4th
2024: Angelina Mango – La noia – 7th
2025: Lucio Corsi – Volevo essere un duro – 5th
Italy has recorded five straight Top 10 finishes and remains the most consistent Big 5 nation.
Sanremo keeps producing entries with artistic quality and broad appeal.
Aussievision team comments:
“Italy was that one person at school who was genuinely talented AND popular and just had it all going. Even in years where their entry is weaker, they still bag a comfortable top 10 without sweating. Sanremo is easily the national final with the most overall European impact the last 5 years also. No notes.” ~ Liv
“Their first win in over 30 years, with a worst position of 7th and three top 5s. All while choosing what they like through Sanremo without really worrying about how it ‘fits’ Eurovision? Perfect. No notes.” ~ Dale
1. Sweden
Aussievision team score: 91.7%
Eurovision 2020s results
2021: Tusse – Voices – 14th
2022: Cornelia Jakobs – Hold Me Closer – 4th
2023: Loreen – Tattoo – 1st
2024: Marcus & Martinus – Unforgettable – 9th
2025: KAJ – Bara bada bastu – 4th
Sweden has qualified for every Grand Final, won in 2023, and earned four Top 10 finishes this decade.
Melodifestivalen and world-leading pop craft continue to set the benchmark.
Aussievision team comments:
“Holy moly this list is impressive. The clear standout here is Cornelia. Any other year, she may have won another title for Sweden. Melfest is a force of nature and its clear the music industry in Sweden is strong. Sweden really are the best at Eurovision, and their results are proof - 4 top tens this decade alone, and many countries would kill for their "worst" place of 14th.” ~ Hayley
“It hasn't been a great decade for Melfest, but in my view it has been a great decade for Sweden at Eurovision. Any country which can send Cornelia Jakobs, Loreen and KAJ in the space of four years (noting that the other two were pretty strong as well) deserves the success they're receiving. I'd love to see a return to the really strong Melfests of the 2010s rather than the coronations that they have felt like in the 2020s, but I'm not going to let national final drama blind me to the obvious success Sweden is currently enjoying.” ~ Craig
“Basically the whole world consumes Swedish pop whether they know it or not, so it stands to reason Sweden reigns supreme at Eurovision in the 2020s.” ~ Troy,
