Melodifestivalen semi-final 4 preview

This weekend sees the fourth and final semi-final of Sweden's Melodifestivalen. Ahead of the show, we've put together a preview of the seven artists taking part.

Find out more about them below with snippets of their Melfest available on the SVT site.

1. Tess Merkel - 'Good Life'

As a member of renowned pop group Alcazar, Merkel has already been to Melodifestivalen on five occasions. This year she debuts as a solo artist. Born in Nyköping just south of Stockholm, Merkel has been on the Swedish music scene since the early 90s. Along with music, the singer has an interest in Poker and has previously been a contestant at the European Poker Tour.

2. Lovad - 'Allting är precis likadant'

Making her Mello debut is 28-year-old Lovad, aka Lova. She released her debut single 'Min syster sa' in 2018 and since then has released several singles including a duet with Melodifestivalen alumni Albin Johnsén. Her 2021 debut entry 'Allting är precis likadant' is co-written by Johnsén.

3. Efraim Leo - 'Best of Me'

Up-and-coming singer-songwriter Efraim Leo makes his Melodifestivalen debut this week. 2016 saw Stockholm-born Leo feature on a song that made it into the top 20 on the Billboard Dance Charts and which was certified Gold in Sweden. His career has been steadily building over the last few years. In 2019 he opened for Icona Pop at Stockholm Pride and in 2020 he released his debut EP 'Timing'.

4. The Mamas - 'In the Middle'

Melodifestivalen 2020 winners The Mamas return this year, aiming to become the first back-to-back winners since Family Four won in 1971-72. Although denied their moment on the Rotterdam stage last year, the trio is no stranger to Eurovision fans having performed alongside John Lundvik in Tel Aviv. After taking out last year's competition by a solitary point, their 2020 entry 'Move' went on to top the charts in Sweden.

5. Sannex - 'All Inclusive'

Sannex was formed as a school project in 1977 and over the years has had many different members and incarnations. In 2013, the singer Andreas Olsson took over the band and they have since won multiple important awards, including the Swedish Grammi for Dansband of the Year in 2017. The current quartet are well known for giving the Dansband genre a modern feel. 'All Inclusive' marks the band's Melodifestivalen debut.

6. Clara Klingenström - 'Behöver inte dig idag'

Klingenström is a 25-year-old pop artist and songwriter from Visby on the island of Gotland. Her debut single 'Ensam i en stad' was released in 2019 and her follow up 'Sommarminnen' was widely played on Swedish radio. She makes her Melodifestivalen debut with a song she has co-written with the legendary Swedish songwriter Bobby Ljunggren.

7. Eric Saade - 'Every Minute'

Our final song of Semi-Final 4 comes from Melodifestivalen favourite Eric Saade. He won the competition back in 2011 with 'Popular' and went on to place a creditable 3rd at The Eurovision Song Contest in Düsseldorf. 'Every Minute' will be his fourth competing entry at Melodifestivalen and his first since 2015. As well as competing in the competition, Saade was a co-host in 2019. Over the last decade the 30-year-old has forged an incredibly successful career with multiple chart topping albums and singles to his credit.

You can watch the semi-final at 6:00am (AEDT) on Sunday 28 February via SVT Play.
