Melodifestivalen semi-final 3 preview



This weekend sees the third semi-final of Sweden's Melodifestivalen.

Ahead of the show, we've put together a preview of the seven artists taking part.

1. Charlotte Perrelli - 'Still Young'

Semi-Final number 3 opens with none other than two-time Melodifestivalen winner Charlotte Perrelli. Having won the contest in 1999 she went on to win the Eurovision Song Contest with 'Take Me To Your Heaven'. She returned to take the crown again in 2008 with 'Hero' going on to make another Grand Final appearance at Eurovision. 2021 marks Perelli's fifth appearance at Melodifestivalen and her first since 2012.



2. Emil Assergård - 'Om allting skiter sig'


29-year-old Assergård came to prominence in Sweden in 2013 with the release of his debut album. His music has accumulated over 45 million Spotify streams and in 2019 the Undrom-born singer was nominated in the 'Male Live Performer of the Year' category at the Rockbjörnen awards. Losing out to former Melodifestivalen winner Benjamin Ingrosso.


3. Klara Hammarström - 'Beat of Broken Hearts'


Before turning her hand to singing Hammarström was a competitive horse rider and featured in the Swedish reality TV program Familjen Hammarström alongside other members of her family. She made her Melodifestivalen debut in 2020 with 'Nobody'. The song came 5th in Semi-Final 2.

4. Mustasch - 'Contagious'


Gothenburg-based heavy metal band Mustach were formed in 1998 and have a string of hit albums throughout the 2000s. They make their Melodifestivalen debut in 2021, however lead singer Ralf Gyllenhammar has competed previously. He made the final with his song 'Bed On Fire' in 2013, finishing in a very respectable 6th place.


5.Elisa - 'Den du är'


Elisa Lindström returns to the competition after making her debut back in 2014. The 29-year-old has had a successful career over the last decade as a member of various dansbands and is also well-known in the Swedish country music scene. No stranger to TV competitions, Lindström has formerly competed in Dansbandskampen (Battle of the Dancebands) and Körslaget (Clash of the Choirs).


6. Alvaro Estrella - 'Baila Baila'


Chilean-born singer Estrella is no stranger to Melodifestivalen having already competed twice before in 2014 and again last year alongside Mendez. Their song 'Vamos Amigos' made the Final via the Andra Chansen round and eventually finished in 11th place. Not only a singer, Estrella was also a dancer at Mello for many years and featured in Danny Saucedo's 2012 performance of 'Amazing'.


7. Tusse - 'Voices'



Tusse sprang into the Swedish music scene after winning the 2019 version of Swedish Idol at the age of 17. During the competition his cover of 'Rise Like a Phoenix' won plaudits from the judges and public. The 19-year-old makes his Melodifestivalen debut in 2021.
