Lesley Roy releases 'Maps' - Ireland's song for Eurovision 2021

Tonight the Irish entry for Eurovision 2021 was released, with Lesley Roy releasing her new song ‘Maps’.

Just like last year, the song premiered on RTE2FM's breakfast show, with the music video premiering on Eurovision's Youtube channel shortly after.

The song was written and produced by Lesley, but one member of the team that helped Lesley create the song was Lukas Hallgren, who also produced Switzerland’s entry for the 2019 contest ‘She got me’.

Lesley was originally supposed to represent Ireland at last year’s contest, before it was ultimately cancelled. The Irish broadcaster RTE internally selected her last year with the song ‘Story of My Life’.

Lesley is from Balbriggan in County Dublin, but these days often spends time in New York with wife Lauren.

She began her career as a singer, initially signed to an independent Irish label Religion Music and in 2006, licensed to US label Jive Records.

She has released two albums where she is the primary artist, one where she has provided vocals and has been a composer on six others. She released her most well known album 'Unbeautiful' in 2008.

In recent years she has turned her focus more to song writing, and has written for artists such as Adam Lambert, Miss Montreal, Medina, Jana Kramer, and Marlee Scott.

Lesley will be performing the song on the Late Late Show in Ireland tomorrow morning Australian time, so fans can get a first listen of the live version of the song. The show starts at 8:35am Melbourne time, and can be watched via the RTE app.

Ireland has won the contest seven times but have only qualified for the Grand Final once in the last six contests.

Lesley will be hoping to turn around Ireland’s recent fortune and make sure Ireland returns to the Grand Final once again.
