This weekend continues to be packed with Eurovision national finals, one of which being the final of Latvia's Supernova.
After breaking their 6-year non-qualification streak in 2024, Latvia has been slowly gaining momentum at the Eurovision final, but can they keep it up with another qualification this year?
9 members of the Aussievision team have listened to the 10 finalists and scored them in the style of the Eurovision juries, from 12 points down to 1 point.
Let's see who the team thinks should take the crown for Latvia!
Results:
10. De Mantra - Let Them - 34 points
High: 10 from Sam, 6 from Srdjan
Low: 1 from Rebecca and Fleur, 2 from Joel, Laura and Dale
"In the first few seconds of this performance I stupidly thought “Oh look Tautumeitas is back.” Different genre, but the headpieces remind me of them. This is a sophisticated entry, with excellent staging." ~Sam
9. Emilija - All We Ever Had - 37 points
High: 6 from Joel and Dale, 5 from Rebecca
Low: 2 from Hayley, 3 from Srdjan and Sam
"For the favourite to win, this is really just average. Emilija has a great voice but I’m not sold on her stage presence yet. She seems better at the louder parts of the song than the quieter, softer parts like the beginning. I really don’t know how to feel about it all." ~Rebecca
8. Miks Galvanovskis - Cruel Angel - 38 points
High: 7 from Hayley, Paul and Dale, 5 from Joel
Low: 1 from Srdjan and Laura, 3 from Rebecca and Fleur
"This rock song definitely stands out from the selection – and it’s this point of difference that will get it noticed for the right reasons. A great rock song that is engaging, harkening back to the nu-metal vibes of the early 00s. While it might not scream winner, it will definitely scream at you – and for this, I dearly appreciate." ~Paul
7. Legzdina - Ribbon - 42 points
High: 8 From Hayley, 7 from Sam
Low: 2 From Srdjan and Paul, 3 from Joel and Dale
6. TIKASHA SAKAMA - #010126 CODA - 55 points
High: 12 From Hayley, 10 from Srdjan
Low: 2 from Fleur, 3 from Laura
"This is absolutely stunning. I can see the staging here very light, beautiful, and whimsical. This reminds me of Victoria’s 2020 masterpiece. Just beautiful." ~Hayley
"This is very dreamy and Billie Eilish like and is a good song to chill to. Don't know about it's Eurovision competitiveness but I am a fan of this one." ~Srdjan
5. Robert Ox - Ravin' At The Taj Mahal - 58 points
High: 10 from Rebecca, Joel and Dale, 8 from Sam
Low: 1 from Hayley, 3 from Paul
"In a sea of slow songs for Supernova this year, this sort of already stands out by default. That being said, it’s still very fun. Solid vocals and a great colour scheme for the staging. I would like to see a bit more energy from the choreography!" ~Rebecca
"Bit of a left-of-centre choice, and it’ll probably get obliterated at Eurovision, but this is definitely one of the more memorable songs at Supernova this year. It really sticks in my brain, in a good way. I’d be happy to see something different like this representing Latvia." ~Joel
"My god this is HOOKY as hell and I've had it in my head all day, that chorus is great. Something just feels off though and I'm not here for a full backing vocal lip synced chorus. This guy can sing, why isn't he singing. Fix that, and you have a cracking fun entry." ~Dale
4. ELPO - Blakus - 61 points
High: 8 from Srdjan, Joel and Paul, 7 from Rebecca, Fleur and Laura
Low: 5 from Sam and Dale, 6 from Hayley
"Immediately, this gives me Sebi (Slovenia 2019) vibes: whisper-singing on top of an electronic track. However, Blakus seems sonically more interesting as it lilts effortlessly on a happy trip-hop beat. This sounds excellent through your speakers, but I worry about how this could be presented." ~Paul
3. Krisy - Take It - 62 points
High: 12 from Sam, 10 from Hayley
Low: 1 from Paul, 4 from Rebecca and Srdjan
"I really like the beat of this. The staging is also very engaging. The perfect work out song. It reminds me a little of Melanie C’s Sweat – just a younger, Latvian version." ~Sam
"This girl has talent but as much as I love this song and performance, she's just not there yet. This is a great first effort by a young performer and I look forward to seeing her next entry at Supernova. One day Krisy will be on that Eurovision stage." ~Fleur
2. Kautkaili - Te un tagad - 63 points
High: 12 from Rebecca, Srdjan and Paul, 10 from Fleur and Laura
Low: 1 from Joel and Dale, 2 from Sam
"The runaway winner for me. Amazing staging, beautiful voice, and a song that makes me feel nostalgic despite never having heard it before. You can tell that Kautkaili have a passion for both songwriting and performing. Love it!" ~Rebecca
"The absolute best pick of this selection, I like the song but the staging really elevates it to something that could continue Latvia's ESC qualification streak." ~Srdjan
"While this might seem like a subtle mid-tempo song, this band takes us on a musical journey within three minutes. The singer seems like she’s singing to you, and you only, and her radiance shines through your speakers. A genuinely charming song that you can easily fall in love with." ~Paul
1. Atvara - Ēnā - 72 points
High: 12 from Fleur, Joel, Laura and Dale, 10 from Paul
Low: 1 from Sam, 2 from Rebecca
"This is a beautiful ballad that would easily qualify for the Eurovision final. Vocals are on point, the staging is fantastic. It's pretty much there. You know what you need to do Latvia." ~Fleur
"I absolutely adore this - what a gorgeous, delicate little song! Atvara’s vocals shift from subtle to haunting to hopeful over the course of three minutes, and she totally nailed her live semi-final performance. I love an introspective, intimate ballad at Eurovision, and I’m sure the juries will feel the same." ~Joel
"The first time I heard this beautiful ballad, I was emotionally destroyed (and I mean this in the best possible way), it was that moving. Watching the Supernova semi-final performances, I definitely think this entry is the most complete Eurovision package of the bunch. The staging is fantastic and the song has a lot of peaks and troughs and ‘wow moments’ that stick in my mind. I hope Atvara can improve on her vocal performance in the final and give Latvia a strong chance at qualifying for the final at Eurovision!" ~Laura
"This is not something I'd usually go for and despite the long build, the big moments are just beautiful with really impactful staging. When she lets rip with her voice, it's stunning and the last 30-60 seconds is actually quite emotional. Lovely." ~Dale
