Kate Miller-Heidke is back with her new single ‘This Is Not Forever’

Australian Eurovision Song Contest 2019 representative Kate Miller-Heidke is back with her new single release, ‘This Is Not Forever’.

It has been one year since Kate’s last solo single ‘Ernie’ which was released in May 2019 during her Eurovision journey last year. The touching and emotional song is about her son and the challenges of having a child for the first time.

At Eurovision Kate earned Australia its fourth top 10 Grand Final placing when her epic and out of this world performance ‘Zero Gravity’ finished in 9th place. Her performance was awarded with the Marcel Bezençon Artistic Award which is a huge achievement! The Marcel Bezençon Awards honour the best competing songs in the Eurovision final.

Following Eurovision Kate delighted us all with her Australian tour ‘Kate Miller-Heidke Live In Concert’ from September to October 2019. She also made a guest appearance in Conchita Wursts’, Austria’s Eurovision 2014 winner, tour with Trevor Ashley in ‘Conchita Wurst and Trevor Ashley in Concert’ during early 2020.

Earlier this year Kate amazed us with an acoustic performance of ‘Zero Gravity’ at the ‘Eurovision - Australia Decides - Gold Coast 2020’. She also formed part of the jury panel along with Måns Zelmerlöw, the Swedish winner of Eurovision Song Contest 2015, who also performed at the show.

Kate’s new single, ‘This Is Not Forever’, which is to feature on her highly anticipated untitled fifth album, is produced by Justin Stanley, and co-written by Kate together with Ingrid Andress and Justin Stanley. Ingrid is an American country singer who has written songs for Alicia Keys and Charli XCX. Justin Stanley is an Australian musician, producer and songwriter based in California who has worked with a wide range of artists from Prince, Leonard Cohen, Paul McCartney, Snoop Dogg, Jet, Sheryl Crow and Mark Ronson, just to name a few…

Kate wrote ‘This Is Not Forever’ after someone close to her was suffering depression and wanted to help them out. In an interview with The Queensland Times Kate explained how the new single came about:

“I did send the song to them, but it didn't make much of a difference, unfortunately. I suppose I am mercenary in a way, constantly looking for emotions or things in my life that I feel could be expressed in a song.

This particular song was written while at an APRA SongHubs writing camp on the Gold Coast. We were set up on a blind three-way date and that was the first time I've ever done that style of collaboration for myself.

We wrote this song on the third day when I think everyone was feeling a bit fragile. I've written for other people in that way, but I've never felt confident enough to go into that setting and write for me. That camp changed the whole direction of my album and was a watershed moment.”

She further addressed that the song itself took on another meaning during this current climate we are all faced with self isolation and social distance due to COVID-19.
