Jessica Mauboy has just released her new solo album ‘Hilda’, her first in six years since ‘Beautiful’.
The title of the album, ‘Hilda’ is her middle name, and also her grandmother’s name, who she was named after. Mauboy never met her grandmother.
It is the first time Mauboy has co-written every track on an album. She created something personal and raw. When listening to it you don’t just get to know Jessica but you get up close and personal with Jessica Hilda Mauboy.
As stated on her social media Mauboy explains “This special album is dedicated to anyone still learning about themselves, discovering new things that you thought weren’t possible, finding your solid ground, struggling with love, body and mind or maybe afraid to show the real you.”
She has been one busy woman in the lead up to her new album launch. From releasing singles and promotional songs, to performing intimate shows at The Grounds of Alexandria in Sydney and even teaming up with Kira Puru on Triple J’s The Set to sing a cover of 'That Boy Is Mine', which you can check out here. This week Mauboy even got engaged with her long term boyfriend Themeli. He proposed to her in his hometown of Kalymnos in Greece while they were on holidays.
Earlier this month it was announced that Mauboy is nominated for two 2019 ARIA Awards, in the ‘Best Female Artist’ and ‘Best Video’ categories for her single 'Little Things'. You can vote for her in the ‘Best Video’ category here.
The ‘We Got Love’ star, has come a long way from being runner-up in Australian Idol in 2006, and soon enough releasing her first solo album. She also was a part of the girl group Young Divas where they scored a No. 2 hit single 'This Time I Know It’s for Real'. Over the last decade she has starred in various films and TV shows including ‘The Sapphires’ and ‘The Secret Daughter’. She has achieved six top 10 albums, including soundtracks, and nine top 10 singles, including the No.1 'Burn'.
She is the only Australian to represent Australia twice at Eurovision, the first time in Semi Final 2 in 2014 where she was the first non-European solo artist to represent Australia and the second time as our fourth Eurovision representative with 'We Got Love'.
She first released the lead single 'Sunday' on 12 April 2019. The song was inspired after a heated argument with her boyfriend, it has made for a very smooth track.
She released the second single a very emotive ballad 'Little Things' on 21 June 2019. The lyrics of the song are inspired by the tragic death of her grandmother Hilda and her mother’s struggle to grow up without her. She collaborated with DNA Songs, David Musumeci and Anthony Egizii the same guys she collaborated with for her Eurovision song 'We Got Love'.
Today Mauboy released her third single 'Selfish'. Check out the lyric video below.
