Another day - another evening of the Sanremo Music Festival! If you missed yesterday's shenanigans we've got you covered here. Allora, let's get to the nitty gritty.
Half of the artists performed this morning during the five hour show - here are the provisional Top 5 results consisting of radio jury (50%) and televoting (50%) from this evening.
Top 5 Performances:
1st: Geolier – 'I p’me, Tu p’ te'
Geolier hails from Napoli and debuted at Sanremo this year. His music is based in hip-hop and trap and had a very successful 2023 on the charts. 'I p’me, Tu p’ te' (translating when de-stylised to 'Me for me, you for you') is currently the most streamed Sanremo song of 2024 and features lyrics in a Neapolitan dialect. Geolier topped the results tonight with many questioning if the stronghold Napoli historically holds on the televote influencing the results. Time will tell when the juries are let loose if Geolier will hold up come final night.
2nd: Irama – 'Tu No'
Irama is back once again to the contest - for the first time during the festival he makes the scoreboard tonight. His last appearances at Sanremo include 'La genesi del tuo colore' (2021) and 'Ovunque sarai' which finished fifth and fourth respectively. It's hard to deny 'Tu No' is one of the most passionate male ballads of the year and is truly captivating. He is a bit of a dark horse to do extremely well this festival.
3rd: Annalisa – 'Sinceramente'
A huge fan favourite in the Eurovision community - notably from her debut Sanremo appearance in 2018 with 'Il mondo prima di te' which placed 3rd. Annalisa enters Sanremo this year as the odds favourite for good reason - the performance this morning was all class. She is captivating and is just as good at pop as belting out ballads! Her vocals and stage craft are world class. Can she take out this whole competition - for now she has finished third in both provisional results.
4th: Loredana Bertè – 'Pazza'
Loredana is back at Sanremo for the first time since 'Cosa ti aspetti da me' which placed fourth in 2019. She has participated in the festival a whopping 12 times and demands respect from Italian industry professionals. The performance was typical Loredana, iconic vocals with that distinctive gravelly sound. She produced an improved performance tonight and was rewarded once again on the leader board.
5th: Mahmood – 'Tuta Gold'
Mahmood is BACK...again! Most known for winning Sanremo 2019 with 'Soldi' and Sanremo 2022 alongside Blanco with 'Brividi'. He was one of the standouts of the night - 'Tuta Gold' has all the swagger of his biggest hits and composition-wise stands out amongst the upbeat tunes this year. He produced another standout performance tonight and is doing exceptionally well in Spotify streams.
John Travolta did the CHICKEN DANCE of all things with Fiorello and Amadeus
The infamous COVID-19 trolley from the 2021 contest was reincarnated
DJ Bob Sinclar did an absolutely sensational set on Costa Smeralda (the official cruise ship of Sanremo - yes that is a thing)
