Ireland release their 2021 Junior Eurovision Song 'Saor'

Tonight Ireland released their song for Junior Eurovision 2021 with Maiú Levi Lawlor to perform ‘Saor’, which means "free" in Gaelic.

The songwriters for ‘Saor’ include Anna Kearney, who was the Irish Junior Eurovision representative in 2019 and Anna Banks who is the sister of the inaugural Irish Junior Eurovision representative Aimee Banks.

Both songwriters also worked on Anna Kearney's Junior Eurovision entry 'Banshee'.

Maiú Levi Lawlor won Junior Eurovision Eire several weeks ago but his song was not revealed during the event.

Maiú is 14-years-old and is from County Wicklow. Alongside singing, he loves swimming, basketball and is in the Scouts. He was also the only boy to make it out of the heats in Junior Eurovision Eire.

Ireland is returning to the contest this year after an absence in 2020 due to the pandemic.

Their best result was six years ago in Valletta, when Zena Donnelly finished in 10th place.

Junior Eurovision 2021 will take place in Paris on 19 December 2021, after the victory of France’s Valentina last year with 'J’imagine'.
