Ríkisútvarpið (RÚV) have announced the artist and songs that will be competing in this year's national final 'Söngvakeppnin' 2023. It will be hosted by Unnsteinn Manuel Stefánsson, Ragnhildur Steinunn Jónsdóttir and Sigurður Þorri Gunnarsson.
Competing in the first semi-final on 18 February 2023 (19 February 2023 in Australia) are:
BRAGI - 'Stundum snýst heimurinn gegn þér'
MÓA - 'Glötuð ást'
Bendeikt - 'Þora'
Celebs - 'Dómsdags Dans'
Diljá - 'Lifandi inni í mér'
Competing in the second semi-final on 25 February (26 February 2023 in Australia) are:
Kristín Sesselja - 'Óbyggðir'
Langi Seli og Skuggarnir - 'OK'
Silja Rós og Kjalar - 'Ég styð þína braut'
Úlfar - 'Betri maður'
Sigga Ózk - 'Gleyma þér og dansa'
The final will be held on March 4, 2023 (March, 5 2023 in Australia).
Two songs will be selected from each semi-final via public vote through telephone voting to compete in the Grand Final. A fifth song will be chosen by the jury.
Iceland has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 38 times with their best result being 2nd place. This has happened twice, Selma in 1999 with the song ‘All Out of Luck’ and in 2009 with Yohanna and the song ‘Is It True?’ In 2022, they were represented by Systur (who competed in Songvakeppnin 2022 as Sigga, Beta and Elín) with ‘Með hækkandi sól’ placing 23rd.
