It is the start of a new chapter for one of Australia’s biggest Eurovision stars Dami Im, who is set to soar with the release of her new single ‘Paper Dragon’.
It is her first release with ABC Music, who Dami recently signed with.
Excited by the news, ABC Music’s Natalie Waller, Head of Music and Events, said:
“ABC Music welcomes Dami Im to our roster with open arms! To have the opportunity to work with such a prestigious artist, with so many accolades and achievements behind her and yet so much exciting material to come, is an honour. We are counting down the days until we can unleash ‘Paper Dragon’ onto the world!”
In support of the new single Dami will hit the road on the ‘Paper Dragon Tour’ in Queensland for some select live shows.
Also on Friday, September 18 catch Dami Im as she features as a special guest on The Wolfe Brothers online show ‘The Wolfe Brothers Wolfe Pack Live’ on YouTube and Facebook Live. The Wolfe Brothers are part of the ABC Music family and were runners up in Australia’s Got Talent in 2012. The show starts at 7pm AEST. You can find the link here.
To celebrate the release of ‘Paper Dragon’ we interviewed Dami and asked her about the new single (confirming it was slated for Eurovision 2021), the team behind the song, the new tour and her upcoming album, check it out below:
Congratulations Dami for signing with ABC Music and on the release of your new single ‘Paper Dragon’.
Can you tell us how the song ‘Paper Dragon’ came about and the team behind the new single?
Paper Dragon is an anthem about believing in myself and telling the doubters to shh. It was co-written by me and Elki and produced by Konstantin Kersting.
Is it true that ‘Paper Dragon’ was the song you had prepared to submit for ‘Eurovision - Australia Decides 2021’?
Yes. Originally a version of this song was pitched to me which I had considered for my entry for Eurovision 2021 but obviously everything got cancelled. I loved the song so much and if we worked on a more powerful chorus it could be really special. I spoke to Elki whether she would be happy for me to still release it as my single this year and she agreed so we kept bouncing ideas through Voice Memo to develop the song further. Once we were really happy with it I went into Konstantin's studio which happened to be in Brisbane and recorded with him.
You have the upcoming ‘Paper Dragon’ tour during September and October in Queensland to support the new single. What can we expect from your new show?
First of all, I have to say just being able to do some kind of tour this year is such a privilege and I am truly grateful There will be some changes and precautions because of Covid and I'm only able to tour in Queensland but I'm so excited to play to a live audience and also perform my new song. I know many have been craving for live music so I can't wait to get out and play.
You previously told us that you have a new album in the works, which is now slated for 2021. We can not wait for it. Could you drop us any little hints on what to expect?
I've been working on some really fresh sounding new songs and it's so hard to keep them to myself for now! I think Paper Dragon marks a fresh chapter for me and I can't wait to reveal the rest of it.
