Eurovision star Dami Im releases new single ‘Lonely Cactus’

Dami Im has unveiled her follow up single ‘Lonely Cactus’, after the release of ‘Paper Dragon’ which was initially set for ‘Eurovision - Australia Decides 2021’.

Dami competed at the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 where she finished in runner up place with the song ‘Sound of Silence’ giving Australia it’s most successful placing in the contest. At ‘Eurovision - Australia Decides 2020’ Dami revealed that she was putting her hat in the ring for ‘Eurovision - Australia Decides 2021’.

The event of course didn’t eventuate as Montaigne was confirmed as Australia’s 2021 Eurovision representative after the cancellation of Eurovision 2020 due to Covid-19.

The song is Dami’s second official single release with ABC Music, who she signed with last year before the release of ‘Paper Dragon’.

Dami wrote ‘Lonely Cactus’ during 2020 when Covid-19 hit. In an interview with Sunday’s Stellar, Dami revealed more about the inception of the song:

“I wrote it during COVID world. There were days when I felt lonely. I needed to make friends or see my friends. Other days I just wanted to be alone - everything was annoying me; I started to not answer phone calls. "

"We made the lyrics into talking about another person because you don’t want to sound like an arsehole in your own song! But it is about me.”
