We profile Switzerland's 2025 Eurovision entry, including details on the artist, song, selection process, odds, fan reactions, and the nation's Eurovision history.

Switzerland has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 64 times since the inaugural edition in 1956, and has only missed the Contest four times.

The nation not only hosted but also won the first ever Contest, with Swiss artist Lys Assia performing the classic chanson Refrain. Switzerland’s second victory – and most iconic - would then follow in 1988, when the then-unknown Canadian singer Céline Dion emerged victorious with her song Ne Partez Pas Sans Moi, winning by just a single point over the United Kingdom.

The country’s most recent triumph came in 2024, when Nemo captivated Europe with The Code, bringing Switzerland its third Eurovision win and setting the stage for the 2025 Contest in Basel.

Despite these highs, Switzerland has had its share of struggles. Since the introduction of semi-finals in 2004, the country has only qualified for the Grand Final 9 times out of 20 attempts, including 4 instances of receiving nul points. That said, Switzerland has experienced a resurgence in recent years. In addition to Nemo’s 2024 victory, 2019 saw a 4th place finish by Luca Hänni with She Got Me, followed by a 3rd place finish by Gjon’s Tears in 2021 with Tout l'univers.

Representing Switzerland at Eurovision 2025 in Basel is Zoë Më with her song Voyage. Performed in French, the song marks only the 7th time this century that Switzerland has sent a non-English language song to perform at Eurovision.

About the artist

Zoë Alina Kressler, known professionally as Zoë Më, is a 24-year-old Swiss singer-songwriter. Born in Basel, Zoë spent many years living in Germany before returning to her home country 15 years ago.

Despite not growing up in a bilingual household, Zoë developed a love for language from an early age. Zoë began writing songs as a 10-year-old, and is recognised for her unique poetry-pop style which blends both German and French lyrical influences.

After releasing her first single Bärenbrüder in 2018 to acclaim, Zoë followed with her first studio album Momoko in 2020. Her bilingual EP Dorienne Gris earned her a spot at a number of renowned events, including the Montreaux Jazz Festival and Luzern Live.

Last year, Zoë Më was awarded both the RTS Artiste Radar and SRF 3 Best Talent prizes, awards which have previously been handed out to her Eurovision contemporaries Marius Bear and Nemo.

About the song

Co-written with Scottish singer-songwriter Emily Middlemas and German producer Tom Oehler, Voyage is performed in French, one of Switzerland's official languages. The collaboration began during a songwriting camp in July 2022 via video call, where the beginnings of Zoë’s personal creation were developed by the team into Voyage.

The song’s message explores how kindness and compassion in how we treat the people around us can help to create the best version of ourselves. The songwriting team endeavoured to combine gentle melodies with authentic lyrics to create a delicate, atmospheric tune.

Exemplifying Zoë's unique fusion of chanson and pop, Voyage employs the analogy of flowers becoming more beautiful when we water them instead of cutting them.

How was Zoë Më chosen for Eurovision?

The Swiss Broadcasting Corporation (SRG SSR) opted for an internal selection to choose their Eurovision representative for 2025.

Artists interested in representing Switzerland were invited to submit their songs for the Contest, which were then reviewed by an international audience and an expert jury through a multi-stage selection process to determine who the Swiss participant would be. The broadcaster announced on 5 March that Zoë Më will represent her country on home soil at Eurovision 2025.

Being selected to represent Switzerland in the city she was born is an extraordinary experience for Zoë, noting:

“I’m from Basel, and my grandparents live here. This is a full-circle moment, just like something out of a fairytale.”

Switzerland will compete in the Grand Final of the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest on 17 May 2025 in Basel.
