Eurovision 2022 Armenia profile: 'Snap' by Rosa Linn

Armenia in Eurovision

Armenia have participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 13 times since 2006, only missing the Contest twice. They withdrew from the competition in 2012 citing security concerns in the host city, Baku, and in 2021, because of social and political crises in the country in the aftermath of the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh war. Armenia has qualified for the final 10 times, with their best result fourth which they achieved twice with Sirusho in 2008 and Aram Mp3 in 2014. They have made the Top 10 seven times. Athena Manoukian was Armenia’s most recent entrant with ‘Chains On You’ in the cancelled 2020 contest.

About the artist

Roza Kostandyan was born in 2000 and is professionally known as Rosa Linn. She was born and raised in Vanadzor, northern Armenia. She is a singer, songwriter and record producer influenced by 1980s and 1990s indie-pop. Rosa Linn has been playing the piano since she was 6-years-old and in 2013, she participated in Armenian national selection for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest with the song 'Gitem'. Rosa performs in English and Russian and her goal is to be Armenia’s first global music artist.

About the song

‘Snap’ was written by Linn herself along with Larzz Principato, Jeremy Dusoulet, Allie Crystal, Tamar Kaprelian (who competed at Eurovision in 2015 for Armenia) and Courtney Harrell.

Tamar Kaprelian is a former Eurovision contestant for Armenia when she performed as part of Geneology in 2015. Courtney Harrell has written songs for Ariana Grande, Beyoncé, Chris Brown, Kelly Rowland, Mary J. Blige amongst others. She is a Grammy Award winner and has had multiple nominations. She was a contestant on Season 11 of the American edition of The Voice. Larzz Principato, Jeremy Dusoulet and Allie Crystal are all prominent musicians and producers in the American music industry. The song is about moving on from a failed relationship and the feeling of frustration when people expect someone to continue on with a snap of their fingers. The process is not always that simple. Time is needed to reflect.

“I think we’ve all been at a snapping point, where it felt like there’s no way out and that the entire world is just crumbling down around you. You start questioning everything, including yourself. I have been there. And what I realized was that I had the strength to shape my reality – it just took getting out of my own way and finding inner-peace. It’s all about self-love and accepting that you are enough. Writing 'Snap' was a form of therapy for me and I hope that it can be that for others who are also going through hard times.”

How was Rosa Linn chosen for Eurovision?

Rosa Linn was internally selected by Public Television of Armenia (AMPTV), Armenia's broadcaster for the Eurovision Song Contest. She was announced as the chosen entrant on 11 March 2022 with ‘Snap’ being officially released on 19 March 2022 along with the official music video.
