Estonia: Eesti Laul 2022 quarter-final 3 hosts and artists announced

Eesti Laul, Estonia's national final, rolls on for another week with details of the third quarter-final revealed overnight.

Estonian broadcaster ERR released the artists, song titles and composers to compete in quarter-final 3 this Saturday night (Sunday morning Australian time).

Here is the full lineup, with all songs to be sung in English in this quarter-final after an all Estonian language quarter-final last week:

  • Alabama Watchdog - 'Move On' (composed by Ken Einberg, Taaniel Pogga, Sven Seinpere)

  • Anna Sahlene - 'Champion' (composed by Anna Sahlene, Nicklas Eklund, Dagmar Oja, Kaire Vilgats)

  • deLULU - 'Music Saved My Soul' (composed by Taavi Paomets, Mairo Marjamaa, Inga Tislar)

  • Elina Nechayeva - 'Remedy' (composed by Sven Lõhmus)

  • Goodreason - 'Three Days Ago' (composed by Hele-Mai Mängel)

  • Lauri Pihlap - 'Take Me Home' (composed by Lauri Pihlap)

  • Levvis - 'Let's Talk About' (composed by Aleksei Baruzdin)

  • Merilin Mälk - 'Little Girl' (composed by Karl-Ander Reismann)

  • Shira - 'Under Water' (composed by Marika Rodionova, Kristi Raias, Johannes Laas)

  • STEFAN - 'Hope' (composed by Stefan Airapetjan, Karl-Ander Reismann)

The big name in this list is Elina Nechayeva, who wowed us all as Estonia's representative at Eurovision 2018 in Lisbon, with her operatic 'La Forza', finishing in 8th place, one of Estonia's best results. There are some good musical chops behind this song as well; Sven Lõhmus, the legendary Estonian songwriter has composed this entry - Sven has written four Estonian Eurovision songs, in 2005, '09, '11 and '17.

Also a huge name is Anna Sahlene, a Swedish born singer who competed at Eurovision 2002 for the host nation. She finished in a remarkable 3rd place with her song 'Runaway'. Anna has also competed several times as a backing vocalist, including for our own Dami in 2016!

Lauri Philap is back as a soloist as well for this quarter-final; he formed one part of 2XL, the backing singers for Estonia's win in 2001, and has also competed at Eesti Laul twice in 2009 and 2014.

We have a pair of Eesti Laul 2020 singers back this year; Shira, who finished 6th in the Final with 'Out in Space', and Merilin Mälk, who failed to make it out of the semi-finals.

STEFAN is back at Eesti Laul for a third time in four years, after competing in 2019 and 2020, making it to the Final both times. He won the first round of voting in 2019 with 'Without You', making it to the Superfinal, but losing out to Victor Crone, ending up in third place, but fans will be happy to see him back.

Our revolving door of former Estonian representatives as hosts continues for quarter-final 3; this show will be hosted by Ott Lepland and Laura Põldvere. Ott represented Estonia at the Contest in Baku in 2012, reaching a great finish of 6th place with his song 'Kuula', while Laura has competed twice, in 2005 as part of the group Suntribe, and then an iconic duet with Koit Toome in 2017 and the song 'Verona'; unfortunately she did not make the final on each occasion.

As with each quarter-final, the songs will be presented in music video form only, with several of the artists present in the studio along with our hosts.

Five songs will progress to the semi-finals; the top three as voted by the televote will advance, as well as the top two of the remaining songs voted by a jury.

Eesti Laul quarter-final 3 will commence on Saturday 4 December 2021 at 9:35pm local time (Sunday 5 December 2021 in Australia at 6:35am AEDT). You can watch the show live on ETV and ETV+.
