Recently the full line-up of the annual OGAE Second Chance contest was announced with 25 songs in this year's running. This contest sees OGAE fan clubs submit an entry that competed in their country's Eurovision national selection, but didn't win and represent them at Eurovision. Hence, these songs are given a "second chance".
This year's contest will be hosted in Florence by OGAE Italy as they won in 2024 with Annalisa and her entry Sinceramente.
Naturally at Aussievision we could not pass up an opportunity to rank songs, so 13 members of team have decided to rank the entries in this year's OGAE second chance contest.
Our contributors awarded points to their ten favourite songs in the same manner as the current Eurovision voting system (1st - 12 points, 2nd - 10 points, 3rd - 8 points, then all the way down to 10th - 1 point). Here are the results in ascending order:
25th to 16th
25. Iceland: Stebbi JAK - Set Me Free - 0 points
24. Croatia: LELEK – The Soul of My Soul - 2 points
23. Slovenia: July Jones – New Religion - 4 points
= 21. Serbia: Harem Girls – Aladin - 5 points
= 21. Armenia: Simon – AY PAPAREY BYE - 5 points
20. San Marino (OGAE Rest of the World): Besa – Tiki - 7 points
19. Ireland: NIYL – Growth - 12 points
= 17. Germany: Moss Kena – Nothing Can Stop Love - 13 points
= 17. Lithuania: Lion Ceccah – Drobė - 13 points
"Drobė is the kind song I love from the Lithuanian national finals! It gives me a little vibes from Mother from a few years ago, but this is next level of campness and over the topness!! This would have been great to have seen at Eurovision." ~ Kyriakos
16. Luxembourg: Luzac – Je danse - 17 points
And now for the top 15 ...
15. Latvia: Emilija – Heartbeat - 20 points
Highs: 10 points from Tim. 5 points from Jamie and John Christian.
Lows: 0 points from Srdjan, Fleur, Sam, Liv, Cooper, Kyriakos, Joel, Dale, Craig and Laura.
"I remember hearing this for the first song of the season I listened to and I’ve loved it from then. It’s just has such a high summery feel that just makes me feel happy and excited. I understand the lyrics are a bit generic and, yeah a bit basic but it still hits all the good notes for me." ~ Tim
14. Estonia: An-Marlen – Külm - 31 points
Highs: 12 points from Laura. 5 points from Fleur and Cooper.
Lows: 2 points from Kyriakos. 0 points from Srdjan, Jamie, Sam, Liv, John Christian, Dale and Tim.
"This slice of trance pop perfection is still on high rotation in my playlists long after the season has ended! Every time I hear it I think about snowflakes falling on my face in Tallinn when I visited the city for this year’s Eesti Laul and how happy I felt when I saw this song made the superfinal. An-Marlen, take a bow!" ~ Laura
= 12. Ukraine: MOLODI – my sea - 32 points
Highs: 7 points from Liv. 6 points from Tim.
Lows: 3 points from Fleur. 0 points from Jamie, Sam, Cooper, Joel, Dale and Laura
= 12. Portugal: JOSH – Tristeza - 32 points
Highs: 12 points from Fleur and Craig. 8 points from Jamie.
Lows: 0 points from Srdjan, Sam, Liv, John Christian, Cooper, Kyriakos, Joel, Dale, Tim and Laura
"Obrigada to the Portuguese folks for nominating this for second chance.
This is my favourite of the season and although NAPA have done very well post-Eurovision, I am still salty that we didn't get to see this masterpiece at Basel - 5th place, really??? This is easily my douze points, I don't think I will ever get sick of this song. I really hope JOSH gets his time on the Eurovision stage soon. " ~ Fleur
"Live, I don't know if this ever quite recaptured the magical melodrama of the studio track (it felt like they were trying to do more than the song actually needed). But what a song, honestly - peaks and troughs in all the right places, and with the drama to win over a televoter just as much as a juror. Obviously Deslocado has proven to be an unexpected hit with retrospect, but man, I still can't help but dream of what could have been." ~ Craig
= 9. Poland: Sw@da x Niczos – Lusterka - 36 points
Highs: 8 points from Fleur and Laura. 6 points from Craig.
Lows: 2 points from Jamie. 0 points from Sam, Liv, John Christian, Cooper, Kyriakos and Joel.
=9. Greece: BARBZ – Sirens - 36 points
Highs: 10 points from Cooper. 6 points from Srdjan and Fleur.
Lows: 1 point from Liv. 0 points from Jamie, John Christian, Joel, Dale, Craig and Tim.
"Greece had SO many songs to choose from in their national final this year. In my personal opinion they made the wrong choice and I would’ve chosen this. Barbz (the singer not the Nicki fans) delivered an incredible song that would’ve stood out in Basel." ~ Cooper
=9. Norway: Nataleen – The Game - 36 points
Highs: 10 points from Sam. 8 points from Kyriakos.
Lows: 1 point from Srdjan. 0 points from Fleur, John Christian, Dale, Craig, Tim and Laura.
"There is something incredibly dramatic and mystical about this entry that makes it stands out. Nataleen has outstanding vocals in this song. She may have lost The Game that is Melodi Grand Prix, but she has certainly won my heart." ~ Sam
8. Italy: Giorgia – La cura per me - 40 points
Highs: 10 points from Liv and John Christian. 7 points from Dale.
Lows: 1 point from Tim and Laura. 0 points from Srdjan, Fleur, Cooper, Kyriakos and Craig.
"Giorgia was done so dirty at Sanremo not making that top 5, I'm glad the Italian fan club has rewarded her with this opportunity instead! One of the most angelic voices to grace the Sanremo stage with a timeless classic tune. Beautiful." ~ Liv
"It is a masterpiece all by itself. There is no question, and it would've kept the Top 10 streak alive with this." ~ John Christian
7. Spain: J Kbello – VIP - 43 points
Highs: 10 points from Srdjan. 8 points from Sam and Dale.
Lows: 3 points from Liv and Cooper. 0 points from Jamie, Fleur, John Christian, Kyriakos, Craig and Tim.
"Same reason as my 12 points, would have been one of my favourites at Eurovision if Spain had sent this song instead of Esa Diva" ~ Srdjan
6. Denmark: Adel the Second – The Unluckiest Boy Alive - 47 points
Highs: 12 points from Joel and Cooper. 10 points from Fleur.
Lows: 1 point from Kyriakos. 0 points from Sam, Liv, John Christian, Craig, Tim and Laura.
"This has got to be the most unique, quirky and refreshing song of the season for me. It has barely left my playlist since I first heard it, and I’m hoping OGAE Second Chance contest gives it the love it rightly deserves." ~ Joel
"This song just itches something in my brain. It’s so catchy and Adel (the second)’s voice is so uniquely captivating. The performance, like the song is so simple yet I keep going back to it." ~ Cooper
"My favourite song pre-DGMP. It's a cute quirky song that I still hum every now and then. One of the most underrated gems of the National Final season despite it being in one of the least exciting contests." ~ Fleur
5. Belgium: Mentissa – Désolée - 54 points
Highs: 12 points from Kyriakos. 10 points from Craig.
Lows: 1 point from Dale. 0 points from Jamie and Joel.
"This song is more in line with the current music I listen to in general. I find Désolée super catchy and I prefer it over Strobe Light. This earworm just gets stuck in my head every time I listen to it," ~ Kyriakos
"This is the song I keep coming back to on Spotify, even all these months later. It's groovy, contemporary and has a very likeable lead in the irrepressible Mentissa. I'm always a sucker for a French-language banger, but this one is bringing top-notch production and flair to it which (in my humble opinion) might have actually outdone Reb Sebastian once all was said and done." ~ Craig
4. Albania: Elvana Gjata – Karnaval - 56 points
Highs: 10 points from Dale and Laura. 8 points from Liv. Lows: 1 point from Jamie. 0 points from Srdjan, Fleur, Sam, Joel and Tim.
"The summer hit that got away! While the charm of Zjerm grew on me more and more throughout the season, Karnaval had instant appeal for me from the very first listen, bringing the catchy and fun beach vibes to the FiK stage." ~ Laura
3. Malta: Kristy Spiteri – Heaven Sent - 57 points
Highs: 12 points from Dale. 10 points from Jamie and Joel. Lows: 1 point from Cooper. 0 points from Fleur, John Christian, Craig and Tim.
"In my opinion Kristy Spiteri was the standout performer at MESC and I was disappointed her song came a close second behind Kant. I really thought that if she had got through, she would have been at least a Top 5 finisher at Eurovision. I am sure she will be back another year at MESC and represent Malta on the Eurovision stage." ~ Jamie
"During National Final Season this was hands-down my favourite song. I can see why it didn’t quite win MESC, but boy it’s a cracker of a tune!" ~ Joel
2. Finland: Goldielocks – Made Of - 62 points
Highs: 12 points from Tim. 8 points from Srdjan and John Christian
Lows: 5 points from Liv, Joel and Craig. 0 points from Jamie, Sam, Kyriakos and Laura.
"I really enjoy this song from first listen. I know that Erica was the clear winner of UMK this year and, yeah probably deserved a better place than 11th. But this song is still very fresh and modern. I also reckon that Goldielocks would have the quite a decent back catalogue to explore this Winter." ~ Tim
1. Sweden: Klara Hammarström – On and On and On - 94 points
Highs: 12 points from Srdjan, Jamie, Sam, Liv and John Christian. 8 points from Cooper and Tim.
Lows: 2 points from Fleur, Joel and Craig. 0 points from Kyriakos.
"One of my most listened to songs of the year, 100% my type of song + performance." ~ Srdjan
"Klara's 4th attempt at winning Melodifestivalen was to no avail, but I absolutely love her song and also as an artist. One day, I really hope she gets the opportunity to represent Sweden at Eurovision. Winning the OGAE Second Chance will be a small justice." ~ Jamie
"Apart from the stupid song title, this is princess pop perfection. The song is surprisingly powerful and anthemic. Klara deserves to take out this crown and also the Melodifestivalen title one day." ~ Sam
"My ultimate running song for 2025! I love the unusual structure of the song and it's totally catchy. Easily one of my most listened to tunes of the year and I'm glad it got some airtime at Euroclub!" ~ Liv
"She would've given an eighth Eurovision victory for her country because the song is such a banger. There were some alternatives such as Dolly Style, Scarlet, or Greczula, but this is better than all." ~ John Christian
