It is June 5 which is Constitution Day in Denmark.
This is the day that the first and current constitution of Denmark was signed in 1849 and then in 1953. The southernmost Scandinavian nation is notably one of the few countries that does not have an official nation day, so Constitution Day is seen as an equivalent.
To celebrate Constitution Day, fourteen members of the Aussievision team have ranked their favourite Danish Eurovision entries of the 2020’s.
A scoring system of 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2 was implemented.
In the event of songs receiving the same amount of points, the one that received a higher individual point tally would be granted a higher placement.
So which Danish song of the 2020s thus far is our favourite? Is it one of the qualifiers? Is it an underrated classic? Continue reading for our answer.

Lows: 2 points from Srdjan and Joel. 0 points from Liv and Laura.
“The song should be on the Eurovision stage and would've wiped the floor off the competition with ease. It would've been Top 10 material, if you may ask. It's not just cheery and full of romantic vibes, it has a distinct aura.” ~ John Christian
4. Saba - Sand (2024, DNQ for final) - 78 points
Highs: 8 points from Fleur, Liv, Emma, Paul and Laura. 6 points from Dale, Joel, Hayley and Kyriakos.
Lows: 2 points from Sam. 0 points from Srdjan.
“This is a great song to sing along to. Seriously, who doesn't like belting out the word "Sand" at Eurovision parties. This is obligatory for any Eurovision fan's playlist. Also, it is catchy as heck.” ~ Fleur
3. Fyr og Flamme - Øve os på hinanden (2021, DNQ for final) - 114 points
Highs: 12 points from Fleur, Dale and Tim. 10 points from Emma, Rebecca, John Christian and Kyriakos.
Lows: 6 points from Srdjan, Liv, Sam and Paul. 4 points from Joel.
“A robbery occurred at Eurovision in 2021. You see mine venner, my boys here finished 11th in their semi. How could Europe let this happen? This song is clearly the greatest non-qualifier of all time. Jesper’s commanding stage presence makes this performance so memorable and special. The song even topped the Danish singles chart, so obviously I have taste. I absolutely love this work of art, I always will sing and dance to it at Eurovision parties and trust me, I always make sure it gets played. ~ Fleur
“I love everything about this entry except that it didn't qualify. Catchy, 80s-inspired, a charismatic frontman - it was so ridiculous but so well done for what it was, it remains my favourite this decade from Denmark.” ~ Dale
“There is a great nostalgia about this song. It still sounds like it’s been plucked out of a 1986 DJ set for a wedding reception in Copenhagen. It sounds so genuine and joyful. I still find it unfathomable that this didn’t make the Grand final as I think it would have really been a great addition to the contest. Still gets regular rotation on the playlists.” ~ Tim
“This didn't sound like the 80's...it was the 80's and I still think it's a crime that it failed to qualify for the Grand Final.” ~ Emma
“One of my favourite non-qualifiers of all time, honestly! A simple song with a lovely retro sound that is hugely elevated by the Danish lyrics and Jesper's silly, captivating stage presence. Still love it after all these years!” ~ Rebecca
“Props to that song for having the guts to sing in the national language for the first time since 1997, but sadly, it is underrated by the fandom and the juries somewhat have an appreciation towards it.” ~ John Christian
“This has a special place in my heart! I am so glad these boys went to Eurovision but still can't believe they were robbed of a Grand Final! It is a song I still listen to from time to time. “ ~ Kyriakos
2. Sissal - Hallucination (2025, 23rd place) - 126 points
Highs: 12 points from Hayley and Laura. 10 points from Srdjan, Liv, Dale, Sam, Paul and Joel.
Lows: 6 points from Emma. 4 points from Fleur.
“This is everything you want a Eurovision entry to be: big vocals, a strong wind machine, and a catchy synth pop beat to get people up and dancing. I was hooked on Hallucination since it came out and I know it will be a classic for years to come. “ ~ Laura
“ I’m still listening to this song. Sissal has an incredible vocal and she’s the type of girl I’d do a boozy Sunday lunch with!” ~ Hayley
“A club house dance floor filler that's right up my alley. It never fails to get me up and dancing, which is a big thing as Denmark is usually one of my least favourite Eurovision countries.” ~ Srdjan
“Shaking arse to this in the club at 4am hits different.” ~ Liv
“Although I'd change the Basel staging, Sissal brought an absolute Eurobanger to the contest that I had on repeat. Great voice and she did her job of getting Denmark back to the Grand Final. “ ~ Dale
“An f***ing fabulous Faroese dance number. Sissal should be given a knighthood for ending Denmark's loooooong non-qualification streak. What is even more remarkable is she still managed to qualify despite her woeful blue outfit and the inserted "fart" noises at the beginning of the song. But she is such a Queen (even if the Danish Eurovision team is not) and definitely deserved to do even better - especially in the televote.” ~ Sam
“This is the song that brought Denmark back from the doldrums - and what a song it is. While it may scream out "basic-Eurovision-schlager", it's Sissal's vocals and personality that really made this a winner in my eyes. Her charisma, her self-effacing humour, and the way that she was one of the 'Mothers" of Eurovision 2025 solidified this as a perennial favourite. That, and this song on the dancefloor is the perfect song that you would have a dirty pash to and celebrating it with Sissal at the final 30 seconds singing "Yeah-yeah-yeahhhhhhhhh". Great song!” ~ Paul
“This is such a guilty pleasure, the type of song you can passionately sing along to on the dancefloor and not regret it afterwards. “ ~ Joel
1. Søren Torpegaard Lund - Før vi går hjem (2026, 7th place) - 146 points
Highs: 12 points from Srdjan, Liv, Emma, Rebecca, Sam, Paul, Joel and Kyriakos. 10 points from Fleur, Hayley, Laura and Tim.
Lows: 2 points from John Christian.
“This song is a banger and being in Danish just makes it better. The live performance elevated this song so much for me that it is now my favourite Danish entry ever.” ~ Srdjan
“The man, the myth, the legend. Sissal got the ball rolling on Denmark's fortune change at Eurovision and Søren has cemented the momentum.” ~ Liv
“The most contemporary of the decade's Danish entries, this was so classy and showed you can still make the Top 10 after going first in the running order.” ~ Emma
“Søren is the best thing that could have possibly happened to Denmark this year. The way I tell you my jaw DROPPED when I saw this at DMGP for the first time, because I genuinely couldn't believe this was coming from the same country that has been consistently dropping the ball for the past few years. With an amazing track, stunning voice and mesmerising stage show, the Danish team should be taking notes because THIS is what your artists are capable of!” ~ Rebecca
“Denmark's Troye Sivan deserved so much better this year. The producers' decision for him to open the show and sabotage his chances after he was hotly tipped to do well was a disgusting disgrace. That last chorus is an absolute banger and always leaves me in a club like trance.” ~ Sam
“An elevation in standards, not just for Denmark, but for the whole contest. His performance was both in-your-face sexuality and palatable to a conservative market - a concept that is very difficult to master on the Eurovision stage. A truly wonderful song that will age extremely well and goes to show that Denmark can actually stage and produce a wonderful Eurovision song. ~ Paul
“This is easily the most sophisticated entry that Denmark has sent this decade. It is worlds apart from some of the disposable, forgettable pop entries they’ve sent of recent times. This is pure class and exactly the direction I want to see Denmark follow next year. “ ~ Joel
“This entry is the most contemporary song Denmark has sent in a long time. It grew on me over the Contest and it's up there as an all time favourite of mine now. “ ~ Kyriakos
“Please keep sending masterpieces like this Denmark and we will be going back to Copenhagen soon. Despite Søren performing first at the 2026 Final, he finished in a respectable 7th place and this shows why Denmark needs to send entries that are modern and edgy. This was my favourite entry of Eurovision 2026.” ~ Fleur
“This is very fresh and modern; another very solid, well-performed Eurovision entry that Denmark can be very proud of sending to the contest! “ ~ Laura
“Initially I wasn’t that keen on the song, I didn’t think it was all that interesting or engaging during DMGP but I think something clicked in the Semi final. It just has such a cool sexy atmosphere to it that really stood out with. A well deserved top 10 finish.” ~ Tim
So Denmark's most recent entrant Søren Torpegaard Lund has earned the right to proudly wave the Dannebrog for the Aussievision team. Coincidentally, with the exception of Ben and Tan who never had the chance to perform on the Eurovision stage the results mirrored the placement of Denmark’s 2020’s entrants at Eurovision with Sissal the only other finalist in second place followed by Fyr og Flamme (11th in their semi), Saba (12th in their semi), Reddi (13th in their semi) and Reiley (14th in their semi).
Denmark in Eurovision
Denmark was the first of the Nordic countries to enter the Contest in 1957. They had intended to enter in the inaugural 1956 competition but unfortunately were late in submitting their application and thus missed out, debuting in 1957 instead..
Denmark has competed in the Eurovision Song Contest 54 times and have qualified for the final on 46 occasions. They have won the contest three times in 1963 with Grethe and Jørgen Ingmann with Dansevise, in 2000 with the Olsen Brothers and their song Fly on the Wings with Love and most recently in 2013 with Emmelie de Forest with Only Teardrops.
Although Denmark has only finished last once and have reached the final 16 times out of 26 contests this century, their non-qualification years between 2021-24 was alarming to many Eurovision fans as this was their worst non-qualification streak ever. However with Sissal and Søren Torpegaard Lund reaching the final in 2025 and 2026 respectively, hopefully this brings a positive change of fortune for the Nordic Kingdom.
