Aussievision’s ESC250 2023 rankings

Every New Year's Eve, Eurovision fans across the globe tune in to hear the top 250 Eurovision songs as voted by fans.

The poll has been running for over a decade, with the voting component organised by Belgian Eurovision site, songfestival.be.

We went to 17 members of the Aussievision team to find out how they voted in this year's countdown. We've collated the results and compiled an Aussievision ESC250 Top 10.

Let's take a look at the Aussievision team’s ESC250 ranked songs for 2023:

10. Chanel - 'SloMo' (Spain, 2022) 20 points

Highs: 12 points from Mike and 8 points from Cooper

Chanel won over the Eurovision fandom by knocking off Loreen's 'Euphoria' from its decade long reign from the covereted top spot on the ESC250! This year 'SloMo' is one of the Aussievision teams top 10 favourite Eurovision entries.

We will have to wait until New Year's Eve to find out if Chanel can hold onto the crown and take out the ESC250 for the second year in a row.

9. Hatari - 'Hatrið Mun Sigra' (Iceland, 2019) 22 points

Highs: 12 points from Liv and 10 points from Tim

Hatari made an imapct at Eurovision 2019 with 'Hatrið Mun Sigra' and this year it is one of the team's favourite entries.

The song has appeared on the ESC250 countdown since its debut in 2019 where it landed at No. 13. Over the years it has remained steady in the top 40 sitting at No. 32 in 2022.

8. Måns Zelmerlöw - 'Heroes' (Sweden, 2015) 23 points

Highs: 12 points from Emma and 7 points from Kyriakos

‘Heroes’ remains the third favourite Eurovision winning song among the Aussievision team. It is a popular entry among the Australian fandom after seeing Måns perform ‘Heroes’ live at ‘Eurovision - Australia Decides’ in 2020. On the ESC250 in 2022 'Heroes' stayed in the top 30 sitting at No. 25, its lowest placement so far.

7. Go_A - 'Shum' (Ukraine, 2021) 25 points

Highs: 8 points from Alana and Fleur and 6 points from Cooper

‘Shum’ is an entry that made a huge impact within the Eurovision fandom and in the ESC250 in 2021 the song made its debut at No. 3. It remained in the top 10 only dropping three places in 2022.

At the 2021 Contest the Ukrainian entry scored points from both the Australian public (10 points) and Australian jury (5 points), so it's not surprising it ranks highly among the Aussievision team.

6. Cornelia Jakobs - 'Hold Me Closer' (Sweden, 2022) 25 points

Highs: 12 points from Hugo, 10 points from and 8 points from Kiel

'Hold Me Closer' by Cornelia Jakobs remains a huge favourite within the Aussievision team. In the ESC250 'Hold Me Closer' made its debut at No. 3 only behind Loreen's 'Euphoria' and Chanel's 'SloMo'.

5. Voyager - 'Promise' (Australia, 2023) 29 points

Highs: 12 points from Hayley and 10 points from Alana

Voyager finished in the top 10 at the Eurovision Grand Final in Liverpool and has made an impact with the team to be the fifth most popular Eurovision entry this year! We will have to wait and see where they debut on the ESC250, hopefully somewhere nice and high.

4. Eleni Foureira - 'Fuego' (Cyprus, 2018) 35 points

Highs: 10 points from Emma and Mike

An ultimate Aussievision favourite it wouldn’t be a Eurovision top 10 without 'Fuego'.

Eleni Foureira's epic choreography and iconic stage presence makes for one of the most unforgettable Eurovision entries ever. 'Fuego' received points from eight team members.

When it comes to the ESC250 ‘Fuego’ has remained in the top 10 since its debut at No.2 in 2018.

3. Kate Miller-Heidke - 'Zero Gravity' (Australia, 2019) 43 points

Highs: 12 points from Mark and 10 points from Cooper and Craig

One of the most impressive stage performances to ever be seen on the Eurovision stage, Kate Miller-Heidke still remains much loved in the Aussievision team. 'Zero Gravity' actually ranks as the highest Australian entry on this list with six of the 17 team members voting for it.

When it comes to the ESC250 ’Zero Gravity’ debuted at No. 52 in 2019, dropped to No. 89 in 2020 and fell out of the top 100 in 2021 and currently sits at No. 130 in the 2022 countdown.

Will we see a 'Zero Gravity' resurgence? Let hope so!

2. Loreen - 'Tattoo' (Sweden, 2023) 54 points

Highs: 12 points from Cooper and Kyriakos, 10 points from Hugo and Samuel and 8 points from Craig

Loreen's second Eurovision winning entry 'Tattoo' has made a huge impression with the Aussievision team who have rankied it in second position in our favourite Eurovision entries for 2023. We will have to wait a see how high up 'Tattoo' will debut on the ESC250.

1. Loreen - 'Euphoria' (Sweden, 2012) 58 points

Highs: 12 points from Samuel, 10 points from Kyriakos and Steve and 8 points from Mark

Last year 'Euphoria’ was knocked off the top spot of the ESC250 after a decades reign. It seems Loreen's second Eurovision win has seen the Aussievision team give 'Euphoria' a resurrgence! Nine out of 17 team members placed 'Euphoria' in their top 10.

Can ‘Euphoria’ make a return to the top spot on the ESC250 for a record breaking 11th time? We will have to wait and see.
