Alfie Arcuri finishes 5th for Australia at New Wave 2021

The final results are in and Alfie Arcuri has finished in an incredible 5th place for Australia at the international music contest, New Wave 2021 in Sochi, Russia.

New Wave in an international music competition in Russia featuring artists from around the world with a television audience of over 100 million people.

Former winners have included Ukraine's Eurovision 2016 winner Jamala, Russia's huge popstar from Eurovision 2016 and 2019 Sergey Lazarev and Moldova's DoReDos who finished Top 10 at Eurovision for Moldova in 2018.

The results were a combination of judging over three nights of competition with each entrant to perform a home hit, a global hit and a song of their own.

Alfie performed a stripped back version of Kylie Minogue's 'I Can't Get You Out of My Head', Coldplay's 'A Sky full of Stars' and his own song 'If They Only Knew'.

Performing his own song was poignant for Alfie saying,

"Singing my own love song about another 🙎🏻‍♂️ on Russian TV - proud of myself."

The judging panel included Philip Kirkorov, Svetlana Loboda, Sergey Lazarev and Dima Bilan.

The judges also awarded 'Most stylish artist' to Alfie.

The winner was Saro from Armenia who led from start to finish and was also a back-up singer for Srbuk at Eurovision in 2019.

The final standings were:

1. Saro (Armenia) – 267 points

2. Denitsa Karaslavova (Bulgaria) – 261 points

3. Jorge González (Spain) – 257 points

4. Mezzo (Kazakhstan) – 255 points

5. Alfie Arcuri (Australia) – 246 points

6. Max Box (Russia) – 241 points

6. Grinkevich (Russia) – 241 points

8. Fabio Curto (Italy) – 239 points

8. Sevil (Russia) – 239 points

10. CHEICHAI (Belarus) – 232 points

11. Natia Rigvava (Georgia) – 231 points

The audience award went to Grinkevich from Russia.

Alfie Arcuri is the first Australian to compete at New Wave and follows up his award winning performance at the 2019 Golden Stag festival in Romania.
