Aussie fan of the week - Selim

What is your name and where are you from?

Selim Keles and I am from a country town called Mildura AKA Heat Central

Tell us something interesting about you?

Hhhmm whats interesting about me well I got a bit of a complex crazy mind sometimes I love to read about all the unexplained mystery’s and questions of the world and I love getting into debates about it, I also classify myself as abit of a conspiracy theorist I love looking into crazy theories that most people would call stupid and idiotic. Sometimes you find some stuff that is very interesting, and most people don’t know about. I also love my sports especially AFL and Cricket CARN THE DOGGIES!!! Bonus fact about me for most of my teenage life I wanted to be a WWE Wrestler

On to Eurovision itself – when did you first get into the contest?

I first got into the Contest in 2013 when I came across it while watching Sunrise (Morning TV show) and saw a clip of Margaret Berger and I was intrigued and watched the final and from then on, I have been a fan

Margaret Berger is a great way to get into the comp! ~ Aussievision

Do you have a favourite Eurovision year? Why is it your fav?

My Favourite Eurovision year would probably be 2015 because it was the first year I watched both the semis and Final Live at the great time of 5am and had so much fun. (I thought fun at 5am didn’t exist but it does) also it had the best range of songs of any year.

2015 our favourite year, so many top songs and of course our first competitive entry!

Which Eurovision song:

Is your favourite?

Wow favourite Eurovision song hardest question ever. Ok I would probably have to go with 2 here either Emmelie De Forest - Only Teardrops because it was the song that made me fall in love with Eurovision if it wasn’t for that song who knows if I would of still watched the next year or Sirusho – Qele Qele it’s got everything ethnic Realness, it’s a bop, Slayage and if you put S at the end of Qele it kind of sounds like my last name haha.

Only Teardrops is one of my all time favourites, great choice ~ Mike

Is over rated?

Get ready for Eurofans to have pitchforks and burn me but I have to say City Lights I really did not enjoy it at all it was so overrated from first listen I did not like it and with her live performance don’t think she deserved 4th sorry but I’m really not.

Controversial! Mike disagrees with you, but Dale nods approvingly...

Was robbed?

Oh, definitely Verona like wow I was in love with that song from first listen it was my favourite song of 2017 and when it didn’t qualify I was so angry was ready to break the TV.

Preach, RIP

Had the best live performance?

Best live performance has to go to Aminata like wow I had Goosebumps with her vocal slayage I don’t know how she did it but wow how did she not win with that amazing song and voice

Did you last play?

Beautiful Mess By Kristian Kostov or La Forza By Elina Nechayeva (wink wink)

Is your guilty pleasure?

Lithuania 2014 I weirdly have always loved it from first listen would be close to in my top 10 for that year tbh

Any other interesting honourable mentions?

I think I have to give an honourable mention to the country of Estonia like since 2011 they have been in my top 10 every year besides 2014 aswell as three top 3s they just get Eurovision for me.

Totally agree, Estonia for their size bring consistent quality. One of our favourite nations.

Do you follow the national finals?

If so have any songs caught your attention so far this year? Of course, I have the songs that stick out are La Forza, Poison (Ari Ari), Eva – Lisandro and lets not forget the INJUSTICE OF PIEDESTAL those 4 are probably the favourites atm

Why should Australia be in Eurovision?

Ill have to admit I was quite stuck on this question but then I looked at my family we are a Turkish family, my sister has a half Greek/Turkish family of her own my cousins are Indian, I have Italian, Irish, British in me as well as Turkish, my best friend is Persian. While not perfect Australia is just a terrific Multicultural country that tries its best to be accepting of all. I think that’s why we have loved and broadcasted Eurovision for so long cause we are so diverse I personally think we are here in Eurovision cause of how Multicultural we are. Also, we send bomb a** songs so put all of that together that’s why we should be in Eurovision.

Nicely put, our multiculturalism is such a strong reason our nation became obsessed with the show.

Are you happy with Jessica Mauboy as our choice for Lisbon?

Im not happy nor mad (anymore) never really been a fan of hers but im sure she will do a good job for us but to be honest I was the leader of Team Rickie Lee

OH WE REMEMBER! Still think Ricki was trolling us all.

Sea of Flags, Tonight Again, Sound of Silence or Don’t Come Easy?

Definitely Tonight Again wow that song is a bop and Guy killed his performance it was awesome it is the only Australian song I still listen to right now sorry others also he had mad Spaghetti Legs

Thank you so much Selim, we hope you get some favourites up in the National Finals!
