Zdob şi Zdub & Fraţii Advahovto to represent Moldova at Eurovision 2022 with 'Trenulețul'

Overnight Moldova selected their Eurovision 2022 entry and artist, Zdob şi Zdub and Fraţii Advahovto who are set to head to Turin with the song 'Trenulețul'.

They were selected internally out of 28 entries where auditions were televised on Teleradio-Moldova (TRM) and uploaded online.

Initially Moldova's entry was due to be selected via the national final 'Selecția Națională 2022' over two stages. On January 28 TRM announced that, due to issues with organising the national final, they would opt for an internal selection instead. An expert jury selected the winner internally.

Their Eurovision entry 'Trenuleţul', which translates to 'Train', pays homage to the Ramone’s Blitzkrieg Bop with its infectious chorus of ‘Hey ho! Let’s go. Folklore and rock ‘n’ roll’, and showcases Zdob și Zdub’s love of traditional word-of-mouth storytelling.

This will be Zdob și Zdub's third time representing Moldova at Eurovision. They first represented Moldova at its debut in the Contest in 2005 with the entry Boonika bate doba' which finished 6th in the Grand Final.

They would go on to return six years later in 2011 with 'So Lucky'. Zdob și Zdub again qualified to the Grand Final finishing in 12th place.

Last year Moldova qualified for the Eurovision Grand Final for the 11th time with Natalia Gordienko's entry 'Sugar' which finished in 13th place. Moldova's best placed entry is 'Hey Mamma!' by SunStroke Project which finished in an impressive 3rd place in 2017.
