Australia will hold its second national final next year with ‘Eurovision – Australia Decides’ to be held on the Gold Coast 7-8 February 2020.
If you are still undecided about going or need a little more information, here are our five reasons why you should attend.
The atmosphere
We had high expectations going to our very first national final and… they were exceeded! We’ve been to Eurovision twice and was struck by how similar the atmosphere was to the real contest. A little smaller yes, but the energy of the crowd, the live show, the performances and knowing that we were going to have a winner really made it feel like a ‘mini Eurovision’. It's the closest you'll get to the real thing.
The fans
There aren’t many times that thousands of other Eurovision fans are all in the same place at the same time outside the main contest. It’s a great way to mingle with other fans and go to related events including the OGAE Australia club after party. If you want to get in on the action, ensure you become a member.
The Gold Coast
When Gold Coast was announced as the host, many ‘southerners’ weren’t happy that Sydney or Melbourne wasn't the venue. However, it’s a perfect reason to take a mini holiday! The Gold Coast has a theme parks, amazing beaches, plus a stunning hinterland. Brisbane and Byron Bay are just one hour either side so use the event as an excuse to take a few days to explore this incredible part of the world.
The music
Last year we saw 10 live acts with original songs singing everything from pop rock, to opera and electro. This year according to Blink TV they are looking to make it even more diverse. Chuck in special guests (2019 saw Dami Im and Casey Donovan perform) and you have yourself the most unique live music television event in Australia.
The cost
Travelling to the other side of the world to go to the contest costs thousands and thousands of dollars, plus you have to find accommodation and tickets in a high demand market (and get the time off work). Tickets, flights and hotels are MUCH more affordable for Australia Decides and you can do it all in a long weekend.
So make sure you book tickets to the show through Ticketek AND if you are interested in booking your flights, accommodation or anything else associated with your trip, then you’re in luck!
