Spotify and YouTube rankings of Eurovision 2016 songs



Over the next few weeks we will take a look at all play counts and views on Spotify and YouTube of all the Eurovision songs year by year since Australia’s debut in 2015 to 2020, to see which songs have been most popular with listeners and watchers.


Last month we looked at how the Eurovision 2015 songs ranked on Spotify and YouTube, with Australia's first Eurovision entry by Guy Sebastian still holding strong. Today we look at how Dami Im's 'Sound of Silence' fairs against all the other Eurovision 2016 songs on Spotify and YouTube.

Before we begin with the full list of songs with combined play counts and views we will take a look at the current top 10 on Spotify and YouTube. Also in brackets we have shown the songs final placing at Eurovision.

All play counts and views were collated on April 3 2021 (Australian time).


Spotify Top 10 - since song release

Out of the songs from Eurovision 2016 'If I Were Sorry' dominates Spotify with nearly three times more plays counts than second ranked song 'J'ai cherché', whilst on the official Eurovision YouTube channel 'You Are the Only One' takes the crown with 22 million more collated views than the Eurovision winning song '1944'.



In the combined ranking 'If I Were Sorry' takes the crown due to it huge streaming numbers on Spotify. The biggest jump into the top 10, compared to their Eurovision final placing, is Spain's 'Say Yay!' '. It ranks in 8th place in our list compared to finishing in 22nd place at the Eurovision final. It beat three other songs which finished in the top 10 in Stockholm.



The highest ranked entry from semi final 1 in our list is 'Ljubav je' by Dalal & Deen feat. Ana Rucner and Jala which came in at 29th place in our ranking. At Eurovision the song failed to qualify to the final and came in 11th place in its semi final.


The highest placed song from the semi final 2 is Norway's 'Icebreaker'. It may have finished in 13th place at Eurovision in semi final 2, but in our list it reached the 20th place, placing higher than seven other songs that made it to the grand final.


Australia's entry, 'Sound of Silence' faired very well, reaching the Top 3 of the most played Eurovision 2016 songs on Spotify and the Top 3 most viewed Eurovision 2016 entries on YouTube. It came in at an overall place of 5th in our overall ranking.
