Australia's Alfie Arcuri competed in the third night of the international music contest, New Wave 2021 in Sochi, Russia.
New Wave in an international music competition in Russia featuring artists from around the world with a television audience of over 100 million people.
Former winners have included Ukraine's Eurovision 2016 winner Jamala, Russia's huge popstar from Eurovision 2016 and 2019 Sergey Lazarev (who won the first ever New Wave in 2002 in the duo Smash!!) and Moldova's DoReDos who finished Top 10 at Eurovision for Moldova in 2018.
The third night of competition saw artists competing perform an original song for the first time.
Alfie performed his 2017 song 'If They Only Knew' and received his highest score yet - 84 points.
The scores are taken from a panel of judges that include Philip Kirkorov, Svetlana Loboda, Sergey Lazarev and Dima Bilan.
Although this placed him equal 6th on the night, he still sits in an impressive 5th place overall.
His song is a love story about a former relationship and the impact of performing this in Russia was not lost on Alfie posting on his Facebook page:
"Singing my own love song about another 🙎🏻♂️ on Russian TV - proud of myself."
The final results will be revealed tomorrow when the public votes are added to the scores.
Previously Alfie had performed Kylie's 'I Can't Get You Out Of My Head' for his home hit and Coldplay's 'A Sky Full of Stars' for his global hit song.
Saro Gevorgyan from Armenia remains in the lead ahead of Denitsa Karaslavova from Bulgaria, with Jorge Gonzales from Spain now in 3rd place.
