Results: Alfie Arcuri for Australia at the first night of New Wave 2021



Australia's Alfie Arcuri competed in the first night of the international music contest, New Wave in Sochi, Russia.


New Wave in an international music competition in Russia featuring artists from around the world with a television audience of over 100 million people.

Former winners have included Ukraine's Eurovision 2016 champion Jamala and Moldova's DoReDos who finished Top 10 at Eurovision for Moldova in 2018.


The first night of competition saw artists perform a song from their home nation with Alfie singing a stripped back 'dark' version of Kylie Minogue's 'Can't Get You Out of My Head'.

First night's scoreboard

Alfie scored an impressive 79 points which places him in 5th place overall.


Currently Saro Gevorgyan from Armenia leads ahead of Mezzo from Kazakhstan and Denitsa Karaslavova from Bulgaria in 3rd.


There will be two more nights of competition with Alfie performing his own song 'If They Only Knew' and Coldplay's 'A Sky Full of Stars' for the global hit category.


New Wave will conclude on Thursday 26 August (Russian time) which will be Friday 27 August in Australia.
