Team comments

"Italy was that one person at school who was genuinely talented AND popular and just had it all going. Even in years where their entry in weaker live they still bag a comfortable top 10 without sweating. Sanremo is easily the national final with the most overall European impact the last 5 years also. No notes." ~Liv

"Their first win in over 30 years, with a worst position of 7th and three top 5s. All while choosing what they like through Sanremo without really worrying about how it "fits" Eurovision? Perfect. No notes." ~Dale

"I don't always love what Italy sends, but I have come to basically always respect it, and when they inevitably clinch a top 5 from the jaws of defeat, I always give a respectable nod to indicate just how much I respect it. Along with France, Italy is defined currently by sending top-tier representatives of their music scene - but unlike France, they don't usually feel like they're sending something Eurovisionesque for the sake of it. One of these years I'm sure they'll trip and fall, but I hope we keep getting constant bangers for now." ~Craig

"They're just too good, it annoys me. Along with France, they're lightyears ahead of the rest of the big 5. They can send middle-of-the-road ballads (or even runners-up from Sanremo) and still comfortably get into the top 10. Plus they have pleasingly brought rock back into the EV spotlight with Maneskin's triumph in 2021 and their global success afterwards. The only thing I'd like to see them try is sending an entry in English... that's the only frontier left for them to prove they're a modern competition powerhouse that can do pretty much anything with guaranteed success." ~Kiel

"Hmmm a tough one. Firstly, Italy have gained a point here just from how hot Marco Mengoni is (yes I said that). They really do send entries that people vote for and the juries go for, even when we think juries don't tend to go for foreign language songs. It feels that Italy are destined to do well at Eurovision forever, even if they send a bad song (looking at you 2022 and 2025)." ~Hayley

"Let's be honest: while 2023 and 2024 are a masterpieces of their own, 2021 and 2025 are examples of a risk going too far, and sadly, they don't know the consequences of going with such risks. Italy needs to think twice before they send a song worthy enough to win the Eurovision Song Contest." ~John Christian

"I'm biased. I don't care. If we gave Italy the win every year we'd end up with quality quality quality. And I loved that silly little mouse." ~Troy
