Nemo to represent Switzerland at Eurovision 2024 with 'The Code'

Broadcaster SRG SSR has today revealed that 24-year-old singer-songwriter Nemo will represent Switzerland at Eurovision 2024 in Malmö with their song 'The Code'.

Nemo was internally selected by the Swiss broadcaster out of 472 submitted songs following an extended selection process involving both an expert panel and a jury consisting of members of the public.

'The Code' was written by a team of songwriters, including Nemo themself alongside Linda Dale, Benji Alasu and NYLAN. All three of Nemo's cowriters have previously been involved with Norway's Melodi Grand Prix, with Linda Dale credited on last year's Norwegian entry "Queen of Kings".

Originating from the city of Biel in western Switzerland, Nemo is an up-and-coming singer-songwriter with three EPs to their name. They primarily sing in German in their music, although the lyrics of 'The Code' are in English.

Their most successful song to date is the catchy German-language track 'Du', which was released in 2017 and reached fourth in the domestic Swiss charts.

The Swiss city of Lugano hosted the inaugural Eurovision Song Contest back in 1956, at which the Swiss representative Lys Assia became the first winner with one of her two entries: the French ballad 'Refrain'. Three decades later in 1988, a Canadian songstress by the name of Céline Dion secured Switzerland's second victory - albeit by just one point! - with 'Ne Partez Pas Sans Moi'.

More recently, Switzerland has qualified for its last four consecutive grand finals with Luca Hanni, Gjon's Tears, Marius Bear and Remo Forrer. Can Nemo make it five in a row?

We'll have to wait until May to find out! Nemo will perform in the first half of Semi-final 2 at Eurovision 2024.
