American superstar Madonna has covered a classic song from an Italian artist competing in this year's Sanremo Music Festival.

Madonna released the cover of the song La bambola as part of a campaign with Dolce and Gabbana.

The song (which translates to 'The Doll') was originally performed by Patty Pravo in 1968. It went No.1 in Italy and charted across Europe and South America.

This saw her become a legend on the Italian music scene, making her debut at the Sanremo Music Festival in 1970 finishing 5th.

She has since competed a total of 10 times, with her 11th appearance to be at this year's Festival.

The winner of Sanremo has first pick to represent the nation at the Eurovision Song Contest.

Patty last competed in 2019, finishing 21st, but did place 6th in 2016, her best result since her debut.

Madonna at Sanremo?

With Madonna's cover and Patty's entry into Sanremo this year, many are suggesting we could see the American as a guest act at the Festival.

Madonna (in)famously sang at the Eurovision Song Contest in Tel Aviv, while many other famous artists such as Whitney Houston, One Direction, Queen, Britney Spears and Kylie Minogue have appeared at Sanremo.
