Early this morning in Australia, Luxembourg broadcaster RTL held the third edition of the Luxembourg Song Contest - and a winner has been crowned.

Eva Marija has won the Luxembourg Song Contest 2026 and will go on to represent Luxembourg at the Eurovision Song Contest in May 2026 with her song Mother Nature.

Eva Marija’s musical journey began at just three years old, when she was inspired to take up the violin after watching Alexander Rybak’s Eurovision-winning performance of Fairytale. She went on to study violin, vocals, piano and bass guitar at the Luxembourg Conservatory, developing a versatile musical foundation spanning classical, jazz and pop/rock.

Born in Luxembourg to Slovenian parents, Eva Marija maintains a strong connection to both cultures and has been performing since the age of 14. She is currently studying songwriting in London.

The 20-year-old’s winning entry, Mother Nature, is co-written by Eurovision-winning songwriter Thomas Stengaard, best known for Emmelie de Forest’s Only Teardrops, as well as numerous other Eurovision finalists, including Andrew Lambrou’s Break a Broken Heart.

Eva noted there was a special energy within her group of songwriters and said about Mother Nature:

"We based the song on the feeling of childhood, when you’d be playing carefree within parks and forests. Mother Nature uses nature as a symbol of hope, freedom and groundedness. It calls to reconnect with your inner child and let go of your fears.”

The songs in Luxembourg Song Contest 2026 were judged with 50% of the scores coming from an international jury and 50% coming from the public vote.

Last year’s representative for Luxembourg, Laura Thorn, repeated her Grand Final appearance at the mid-point of the competition with her song La poupée monte le son, supported by the group Kids Who Sing. Laura Thorn finished in 22nd place at Basel 2025 with 47 points.

Luxembourg was one of the original high achievers of the Eurovision Song Contest, winning the contest no less than 5 times between 1956 and 1993 (in 1961, 1965, 1972, 1973 and 1983). However, they withdrew from participation after the 1993 contest, and then did not participate for the following 30 years.
