This morning, Icelandic Eurovision broadcaster RÚV held semi-final 2 of their national final Söngvakeppnin 2023.
The two acts advancing directly to the Final are:
Sigga Ózk- 'Gleyma þér og dansa'
Langi Seli & Skuggarnir- 'OK'
Not directly advancing to the Final are:
Silja Rós & Kjalar- 'Ég styð þína braut'
Úlfar- 'Betri maður'
Kristín Sesselja- 'Óbyggðir'
One of the entries not directly advancing to the Final from semi-final 1 and 2 will have a second chance, with the contest organisers choosing a fifth song to compete in the Final. It has been confirmed that Celebs with ‘Dómsdags dans’ from semi-final has won the wildcard entry into the Final!
The final of Söngvakeppnin 2023 will take place next Sunday, February 26 (Australian time) at 6.45am ADST.
Iceland is the only Nordic country that has not won the Eurovision Song Contest. They have competed 34 times since their debut in 1986. Iceland's best result are two second-place finishes with Selma in 1999 with 'All Out of Luck' and Yohanna in 2009 with 'Is It True?'. Last year Iceland were represented by Systur with 'Með hækkandi sól' which finished in 23rd place.
