‘Eurovision: The Story of Fire Saga’ song ‘Husavik’ misses out on Oscar for Best Original Song

The song ‘Husavik’ from the film ‘Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga’ has narrowly missed out on winning the Academy Award for Best Original Song. The song was one of five nominated, which was eventually won by ‘Fight for You’ from ‘Judas and the Black Messiah’ by H.E.R., Dernst Emile II, and Tiara Thomas.

Other nominees included:

  • ‘Hear My Voice’ from ‘The Trial of the Chicago ‘

  • ‘Io sì (Seen)’ from ‘The Life Ahead’

  • ‘Speak Now’ from ‘One Night in Miami’

  • ‘Husavik’ from ‘Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga’

‘Husavik’, which is performed by Will Ferrell and Molly Sandén, was written by Fat Max Gsus, Rickard Göransson, and Savan Kotecha, was originally shortlisted before finally reaching the nomination stage on 15 March.

‘Husavik’ was nominated up against ‘Fight for You’ from ‘Judas and the Black Messiah’, ‘Hear My Voice’ from ‘The Trial of the Chicago 7’, ‘Io sì (Seen)’ from ‘The Life Ahead’, and ‘Speak Now’ from ‘One Night in Miami’.

During ‘Oscars: Into the Spotlight’, the pre-show to the Academy Awards, Molly Sandén performed ‘Husavik’ from the town of Husavik in Iceland. All of the nominated songs for Best Original Song were performed during the pre-show, although the other four were all performed from the rooftop terrace of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures.

Despite not winning the Academy Award for Best Original Song, ‘Husavik’ has made waves around the world, charting on ten national and international music charts, its highest peak being number two on Iceland’s ‘Tónlist’, and making it to number eight on Billboard’s Australian Digital Song Sales.
