We are literally on the doorstep of the semi-finals of the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 in Vienna, Austria.

Semi-final 1 will take place on Tuesday 12 May at 21:00 CEST which is Wednesday 13 May at 5:00am AEST in Australia.

Let's take a look at the opening and interval acts of semi-final 1 of the Eurovision Song Contest 2026.

Opening acts

The opening act will be themed around '70 Years of Love’ and will feature a short film showcasing the 70 years of the Eurovision Song Contest. At the conclusion of the film, Vicky Leandros and a 70-member choir will perform an arrangement of her song L'amour est bleu which placed 4th for Luxembourg in the 1967 contest which was held in Vienna following Udo Jürgens’ win in 1966 with Merci, Chérie. This was the first time that Vienna hosted the Eurovision Song Contest.

L'amour est bleu became a hit in many countries including Australia here it reached number 1 on the Australian music charts in 1968. Greek-born German singer Vicky Leandros went on to win the 1972 contest with Après toi. In 2024, Leandros performed L'amour est bleu with 2009 Eurovision Song Contest winner Alexander Rybak accompanying her on violin at the Luxembourg Song Contest.

Interval acts

The interval act will take place during the voting and will focus on explaining the difference between Austria and Australia as these countries tend to confuse many with their similar names. Hosts Victoria Swarovski and Michael Ostrowski will be joined onstage with 2025 Australian Eurovision entrant Go-Jo and will perform a light-hearted song called Kangaroo.
