We profile the 2026 entry from France including details on the artist, song, how it was chosen, odds, fan reaction and how the nation has fared at Eurovision.
After a dismal start to the 2010s, four-time Eurovision winners and Big 4 nation France have had a renaissance at Eurovision in the last decade.
While they have not won the Contest since 1977, since 2016 France has become one of the most consistent performers of the Big 4 (previously the Big 5), including with four Top 10 results for Amir's J'ai cherché (2016, 6th place), Slimane's Mon amour (2024, 4th place), Louane's Maman (2025, 7th place) and of course Barbara Pravi's Voilà (2021, 2nd place).
Flying the tricolour for France at Eurovision 2026 in Vienna, and no doubt hoping to go one better than her illustrious predecessors, is Monroe with her song Regarde !

About the artist
Born in Salt Lake City, USA to a French mother and an American father, Monroe has lived between two cultures her whole life. Singing from a young age at her church in Brigham City, it wasn't long before she commenced training in classical singing and piano and showed herself to be a formidable talent.
Monroe first came to the attention of the French public last year when she won the talent show Prodiges, intended for children aged between 7 and 16 years old with a talent for classical music or dance. Monroe was encouraged to participate in Prodiges by her aunt, who noted that she was almost at the upper age limit for the program and would be unable to participate if she did not act quickly.
She became particularly known for her dramatic performance of Mozart's La reine de la nuit (in English, Queen of the Night), a popular aria from The Magic Flute.
After her victory on Prodiges, Monroe subsequently released a self-titled album consisting of covers ranging from opera standards to more contemporary songs such as Con te partiro, L'hymne à l'amour, and Over the Rainbow.
She also went viral for a flash mob video on TikTok last year where she did a cover of Rosalia's Berghain.
Regarde ! is her first original song.
About the song
Regarde ! is a simple song with lyrics that celebrate love across all of our differences and struggles.
The song combines classical operatic elements with a pop sensibility in a way that celebrates the rich musical culture of France while also being in touch with recent successes such as Rosalia's Berghain and last year's Eurovision winner, Wasted Love by JJ.
It was penned as a collaboration between Fred Savio, Freddie March and the duo Violin Phonix.
Savio is a multi-platform songwriter who has worked with some of the biggest stars in the French music market, including Orelsan and Kendji Girac, as well as past Eurovision stars such as Amir, Natasha St-Pier and Carla.
Violin Phonix are an online duo who produce classical-pop mashups featuring violins. They have a Eurovision connection after previously filming a special live performance of last year's Junior Eurovision winner, Ce monde by Lou Deleuze, at the Eiffel Tower.
How was Monroe chosen for Eurovision?
Monroe was chosen for Eurovision 2026 via an internal selection process. Speaking to Eurovision.tv after being selected, Monroe had the following to say:
"Representing France at Eurovision is a tremendous honour and a responsibility that I accept with pride and determination. This Contest has been a part of my life since childhood, and now, at 17, I am fully aware of the trust that has been placed in me. [...] With my song 'Regarde !', I want to showcase the richness and diversity of French music. I want to offer Europe an intense, sincere performance with a universal message: love is what brings us together."
The young artist was supposed to be touring later this year to promote her debut album, but has had to reschedule some of her shows due to her participation at Eurovision in Vienna.
France will compete in the Grand Final of the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest on 16 May 2025 in Vienna.
