The first semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 took place in Basel this evening/morning, and the first ten qualifiers into the Grand Final were announced.

The ten countries that qualified for the grand final from this morning’s semi-final were:

  • Norway

  • Albania

  • Sweden

  • Iceland

  • Netherlands

  • Poland

  • San Marino

  • Estonia

  • Portugal

  • Ukraine

This meant that these nations unfortunately missed out:

  • Slovenia

  • Azerbaijan

  • Belgium

  • Croatia

  • Cyprus

The results were announced in a random order and are not indicative of where each country placed in the semi-final.

Automatic qualifiers Spain and Italy and host country Switzerland also performed their songs.

The show was opened by a troupe of dancers, yodelers and alphorn players performing Swiss-style renditions of four previous winning songs: Tattoo (2023), Arcade (2019), Waterloo (1974), and The Code (2024).

The interval acts included a musical number, titled Made in Switzerland performed by hosts Hazel Brugger and Sandra Studer, which highlighted and satirised Swiss stereotypes and inventions, featuring an appearance by Petra Mede, who previously hosted the contest in 2013, 2016 and 2024; and four former entrants from 2024 – Marina Satti (Greece), Jerry Heil (Ukraine), Iolanda (Portugal) and Silvester Belt (Lithuania) – performing the 1988 Swiss winning entry Ne partez pas sans moi, preceded by a pre-recorded message from the song's original performer, Celine Dion.
