Eurovision 2021 Poland profile: ‘The Ride’ by Rafał

Poland at Eurovision

Poland debuted at Eurovision back in 1994, with Edyta Górniak and her song ‘To Nie Ja!’ achieving Poland’s best result to date, finishing 2nd in Dublin that night.

Poland’s qualification record is sketchy at best, qualifying only five times since 2005.

They missed the 2012 and 2013 contests, but came back with a bang in 2014, with Donatan & Cleo turning out to be quite a memorable entry and fan favourite.

Their best result in the last ten years was in 2016, when Michał Szpak finished 8th.

Rafał Brzozowski was internally selected by the Polish broadcaster to represent Poland this year after the did not choose to go with Alicja Szemplińska again for 2021.

His music career started in 2011 with participation in The Voice Poland, although he was knocked out just before the final.

This is not Rafał’s first attempt to represent Poland at Eurovision. He entered the Polish National Final in 2017 with the song 'Sky Over Europe', but ultimately finished 2nd behind Kasia Moś.

He is also a well known TV presenter in Poland, and fans of Junior Eurovision will recognise him as one of the hosts of the 2020 Junior Eurovision in Warsaw alongside Ida Nowakowska-Herndon and Małgorzata Tomaszewska.

He was also a part of the Polish jury at the 2019 Eurovision contest, with his favourite entry being none other than Australia’s.

About the song

‘The Ride’ was written by Swedish Grammies-nominated songwriters Clara Rubensson, Joakim Övrenius, Johan Mauritzson and Thomas Karlsson. Clara will also provide backing vocals for the live semi final performance.

The music video was filmed in the Neon Museum in Warsaw.
