Norway in Eurovision
Norway debuted in Eurovision back in 1960 and have won three times, with The Bobbysocks and ‘La det swinge’ in 1985, Secret Garden with ‘Nocturne’ in 1995 and their most recent win with Alexander Rybak and the then record-breaking ‘Fairytale’ in 2009.
They have also finished last eleven times. Five of those earned the dreaded ‘null points’.
Norway have competed at the contest on 58 occasions, only missing out twice since their debut. In 1970, they boycotted due to disagreements with the voting structure as four nations won in 1969. In 2002 they were relegated.
During the 2010s they qualified for the final on eight occasions with Stella Mwangi and Agnete missing out in 2011 and 2016, with their songs ‘Haba Haba’ and ‘Icebreaker’. Norway finished in the top 10 five times with Margaret Berger achieving their best result in the past decade with ‘I Feed You My Love, finishing fourth in 2013.

About the artist
Andreas Andresen Haukeland better known as TIX was born in 1993 and hails from Bærum, Norway. As a child, TIX was diagnosed with Tourette syndrome, which causes him to have sudden nonrhythmic motor movements called tics. He was bullied at school for his condition and this inspired him to incorporate the word into his stage name.
TIX produced ‘Game Time’ for fellow Eurovision 2021 alum Flo Rida as well as the hit ‘Sweet but Psycho’ for Ava Max. The latter reaching #2 on the ARIA charts in 2019 and was the 15th biggest selling single in Australia that year. He released his debut album ‘Dømt og berømt’ (‘Convicted and famous’) in 2016.
TIX is also a mental health advocate. He is open with sharing his experiences with loneliness and suicidal thoughts.
He won Melodi Grand Prix 2021 defeating 2019 Norwegian Eurovision contestants KEIINO with his self-penned composition ‘Fallen Angel’. TIX was one of the pre-qualified artists.
About the song
Originally recorded in Norwegian as ‘Ut av mørket’ (‘Out of the dark’), TIX performed the song during the first semi-final of Melodi Grand Prix 2021. An English version was released soon afterwards.
‘Fallen Angel’ was written to describe TIX’s experiences with depression and being rejected by a girl whom he liked. He describes himself as an ugly duckling as that is how he resonated with the way he was treated in the music business and while growing up. TIX has also stated that it is a song that reflects how a lot of people feel about themselves. He had originally written the song for another artist, later deciding that he would perform the song himself.
After winning Melodi Grand Prix, TIX said in his winning speech 'I have felt for a very long time like the ugly duckling, but this proves that one day, the ugly duckling becomes a swan'..
