BBC Radio 2 has launched the search for Your Ultimate Eurovision Superstar, with some legendary Australian musical icons making the shortlist.

Listeners are invited to vote for their favourite act from a shortlist of 70 iconic Eurovision artists spanning the Contest's 70-year history. The list features acts through the decades from the 1960s to the present day.

Three Australians have made the shortlist:

  • Eurovision 2016 runner-up Dami Im, who represented Australia at the Contest with Sound of Silence

  • Australian singer Gina G, whose hit Ooh Aah...Just a Little Bit flew the flag for the United Kingdom in 1996

  • Entertainment royalty Olivia Newton-John, who performed for the United Kingdom at Eurovision in 1974 with Long Live Love.

The vote, celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Eurovision Song Contest, launched on BBC Radio 2's The Scott Mills Breakfast Show.

How to vote for Your Ultimate Eurovision Superstar

To vote for Your Ultimate Eurovision Superstar, you can head to the BBC Radio 2 website here and submit up to 5 votes for your favourite Eurovision artists.

Voting closes at 9:30am UK time on Tuesday 31st March, and the results will be revealed on Radio 2’s Eurovision Super Saturday, presented by Sophie Ellis-Bextor.

The date of the show will be Saturday, 16th May at 1:00pm - 3:00pm UK time. The special show will be available exclusively on BBC Sounds from Monday 27th April.

Radio 2 Breakfast host, Scott Mills, says:

“From Sam Ryder blasting off as the UK’s Space Man to Loreen proving she’s Eurovision royalty, the contest has produced some of the most unforgettable pop moments ever.

"But it’s also given us true classics - from ABBA declaring Waterloo to the world, to Bucks Fizz’s legendary skirt-rip and Katrina and the Waves letting their Love Shine a Light.

"We’ve pulled together an incredible shortlist celebrating 70 years of Eurovision history, and now Radio 2 listeners get to decide who deserves to be crowned the Ultimate Eurovision Superstar. I can’t wait to see who gets the ultimate 12 points.”

Helen Thomas, Head of Radio 2, says:

"We know how much the Radio 2 audience love Eurovision and we’re planning another very special Super Saturday of themed programmes to mark the 70th anniversary of the Contest.

"This countdown - hosted by Eurovision mega-fan Sophie Ellis-Bextor - will be the centrepiece of our celebrations."

Last year, Radio 2 listeners crowned Sam Ryder's Space Man - the United Kingdom's Eurovision entry in 2022 - their Ultimate 21st Century Eurovision Song.
