Today November 11 is Independence Day in Poland, the national day of the central European country.

This date marks the restoration of the Polish state in 1918 from parts of the old Austro-Hungarian, German and Russian empires. Prior to that Poland had not existed as an independent country for 123 years.

The date also coincides with the end of the First World War, which saw heavy devastation on the lands of the new Polish state. In Australia this date is commemorated as Remembrance Day.

To celebrate this day, the Aussievision team has decided to rank the five Polish entries that have competed at Eurovision this decade.

In the following table are the eligible entries.

Ten Aussievision contributors ranked the five entries. Each contributor awarded:

  • 12 points to their favourite entry

  • 9 points to their second favourite entry

  • 6 points to their third favourite entry

  • 3 points to their fourth favourite entry

  • 0 points to their least favourite entry.

Let's see how the team has ranked the five acts that have competed for Poland at Eurovision this decade.

  1. Rafał - The Ride (2021) - 24 points

Highs: 12 points from Liv

Lows: 0 points from Hayley, Sam, Tim, Domenic & Joel

"If you've not experienced The Ride at 4am at Euroclub in a foreign country then I really can't help you." ~ Liv

"With vocals flatter than the North European plain most of Poland sits on, a cringe factor higher than the Carpathian mountains in Poland's south, and special effects that looked like they were designed by an overexcited teenage boy in the 90s, Rafał really takes the viewer on an interesting ride." ~ Sam

  1. Luna - The Tower (2024) - 39 points

Highs: 9 points from Joel & Tim

Lows: 0 points from Emma, Fleur, Kyriakos & Liv

"This song has an ethereal quality reminiscent of Grimes’ Oblivion, I thought it was a shame it didn’t make it out of the semis." ~ Joel

"Whilst it’s not a great song, it’s a solid performance and I think it was a bit rough of it not to have gone through to the final. It’s a simple song that just makes me feel joyous and want to sing a long" ~ Tim

"Conversely to Tim's comments I feel like the studio version of this song is catchy and well produced. However the chess motif and visceral rip of Velcro gives the Eurovision performance an incredibly dated feel for me, which likely was its downfall after having been predicted to easily qualify for the Grand Final." ~ Sam

  1. Blanka - Solo (2023) - 57 points

Highs: 12 points from Kyriakos, 9 points from Sam

Lows: 0 points from Saskia, 3 points from Domenic & Joel

"She is the Bejba!! What she did in 2023 depiste all the hate and negativity is absolutely iconic!! It is the only Polish Eurovision song from the 2020s i still listen to." ~ Kyriakos

"Bejba proved everyone wrong and I love that. She nailed the performance!" ~Hayley

"I will always be one of Blanka's Bejbas and adore this song. This summery song is such a sensational bop. I nostalgically remember hearing this blasting outside the Royal Castle when I visited Warsaw after Eurovision 2024, suggesting the simply timeless nature of this track." ~ Sam

  1. Justyna Steczkowska - Gaja (2025) - 84 points

Highs: 12 points from Domenic & Sam, 9 points from Emma, Saskia, Fleur, Liv & Hayley

Lows: 3 points from Tim

"She could stomp those heels into my throat and I'd thank her." ~ Liv

"The attention-grabbing intensity combined with Justyna’s experienced yet fresh professionalism made for an amazing and reputable Eurovision entry." ~ Domenic

"Queen and total babe. I wanna be Justyna when I grow up." ~Hayley

" This is nothing short of epic, offering boundless potential for captivating choreography and striking visuals. From the very first note, it demands attention—bold, unapologetic, and perfectly embodying a powerful declaration of feminine strength and respect. Absolutely brilliant!" ~ Emma

"Justyna is an absolute powerhouse and while I don't care for the song, the stage show they accomplish is 3 minutes of unrelenting camp that I could watch on loop." ~ Saskia

"30 years after her Eurovision debut Justyna came back with an even better entry. As a fan of Greek mythology I love the subject matter of this song. Her vocals and performance were so powerful. She moves so well for a 52 year old - I hope to simply be alive at that age. Absolute shame on the juries for marking this song third last in the 2025 Grand Final." ~ Sam

  1. Ochman - River (2022) - 96 points

Highs: 12 points from Hayley, Tim, Fleur, Emma, Saskia & Joel, 9 points from Domenic & Kyriakos

Lows: 3 points from Liv & Sam

"This was my winner for 2022. I was so sure that this could have won the thing. Sigh." ~ Fleur

"My beloved Eurovision husband of 2022. THOSE VOCALS. Seriously - those vocals are insane. What a voice. This song was actually my number one of the year and I got to see it live. I would love to see him back with a better song, something just didn't click with the audience that year and he really was robbed." ~Hayley

"This is by far the strongest song Poland has sent this decade. Whilst the staging choices were... interesting, Ochman's vocal performance was always flawless and it deserved being their highest placement of the 2020s." ~ Saskia

"I’ve got a thing for dramatic mid-tempo songs." ~ Domenic

"2022 was probably a tough year to stand out with it being a year of big songs and a lot of performances with character. I think Ochman was a bit of a stand out with a bit of character and a decent song that stood out effectively. I don’t think it’s a clear favourite out of this list but I think it’s the most interesting and diverse song of the bunch" ~ Tim

"Ochman’s “In the river woah oh” vocal runs in the middle of this song are some of the most satisfying notes ever sung on the Eurovision stage. As much as I love this tune though, to me it’s always felt like a 3:30 song edited down to fit the Eurovision 3 min requirements….and a little bit of gold was lost in the editing process." ~ Joel

"What is not to love about River? Ochman's emotive soaring vocals over a moody piano ballad that turns in to electro opera with strings. This is like three songs blended seamlessly in to one. It's beautifully produced, progresses well and I love the use of the backing vocals which sound like he has a whole choir behind him. Unfortunately overcooked staging saw this not do as well as it should have but still one of my favourite studio versions." ~ Emma

"Such a beautiful ballad which I still think was robbed in 2022." ~ Kyriakos

______________________________

As the lovely Kyriakos says Ochman may have been robbed in Eurovision 2022, after having gone into that contest as one of the early favourites. But he gets some redemption by topping this Aussievision ranking.

We hope all our Polish readers and followers enjoy their National Independence Day.
