What is your name and where are you from?
Hello guys, my name is Robert (20) and I am from a city near Düsseldorf, Germany. I was born in Germany but raised in Poland. My parents are both Polish.
Tell us something interesting about yourself?
I would have been in Australia right now but last summer (7 weeks before my flight to Sydney) I found a boyfriend in Germany. I cancelled everything. A few weeks later I moved in with my boyfriend who’s a few years older than me. I don’t regret it.
Well Australia's loss has been your gain! ~ Aussievision
When did you first get into Eurovision?
I have watched Eurovision for the first time in 2009 even though the first Eurovision song I remember is “Fly On The Wings Of Love” (Denmark 2000). The only reason why I watched ESC in 2009 with my family was the beautiful host city - Moscow. I am in love with Moscow. I was very curious to see Moscow host that “strange thing” called “Eurovision” back in 2009.
And what a great year to get involved!
What is your favourite Eurovision year and why?
I am torn between 2011 and 2016. What I like about 2011 is the huge and timeless stage and the host city (obviously). 2016 was great because of the hosts Måns and Petra, the new voting system with a spectacular result and the entire production in general was on point (unlike in 2013).
Which Eurovision song:
Is your favourite?
My favourite song is “LoveWave” by Iveta Mukuchyan. I absolutely love the instrumental. And Iveta’s powerful and unique voice. The song and her performance were revolutionary. I would love to see more daring entries like this in the future.
That staging was amazing
Is overrated?
Conchita Wurst - Rise Like A Phoenix. I like Conchita but I don’t think this song would have won Eurovision if it was performed by someone else.
Wow that is a controversial choice haha
Was robbed?
“Calm After The Storm” by The Common Linnets. I am sure the Netherlands would have won if “Rise Like A Phoenix” was performed by someone else.
Another robbed ESC song - Gabriela Gunčíková with “I Stand”. Czechia deserved top 5 in 2016
I did really like 'I Stand' and deserved better than it got ~ Dale
It's what she deserved ~ Mike
Had the best live performance?
Iveta Mukuchyan by far. Her performance was revolutionary and vocally on point. I loved the atmosphere and she was looking gorgeous.
Did you last play?
Mélovin - Under The Ladder
Is your guilty pleasure?
My winner of 2009 - Svetlana Loboda with “Be My Valentine”. A bloody banger!
Incredible, a great choice!
Any other interesting honourable mentions?
Dami Im with “Sound Of Silence” - also known as my second winner of 2016!
Do you follow the national finals? If so have any songs caught your attention so far this year?
I watch recaps of almost all national finals on YouTube. I know that the Sanremo festival is not a national final but “Frida” by The Kolors would have been among my favourites this year. Besides that I’m a huge fan of “La Forza” from Estonia.
What do you think of Australia being in Eurovision
I was happy when Australia’s first participation was announced in 2015. Australia are a blessing for the contest. Thanks for delivering every year.
Aww thank you for saying such nice things about Australia!
What do you think of our artist this year – Jessica Mauboy?
Jessica is beautiful. I like her music and I’m sure Australia will be in the top 10 again this year!
Fingers crossed...we'll just be happy if she makes the final
Sea of Flags, Tonight Again, Sound of Silence or Don’t Come Easy?
“Sound Of Silence” without any doubt! I don’t understand why Dami only came 4th in the televote with her outstanding performance.
Anything else you’d like to share?
I expect Australia to win Eurovision in the near future and I would love to see Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane host the show but unfortunately that’s not possible. Thanks for letting me be a part of this!
Very true, apparently it'll be Germany who host if we do win one day, so that could be just as good!
Thanks for your time!
