Two years running, Australia has missed out on the Grand Final by finishing 11th in the semi-final.

Not only that, on both occasions, they received 41 points from the 19 voting nations (including Rest of the World).

In 2024, Electric Fields were six points off qualifying behind Serbia which received 47.

This year, Go-Jo missed out to Armenia which received 51 points.

However, both Australian entries received points from far more nations than their counterparts who qualified above them.

Go-Jo received points from 12 voting nations, while Armenia only received points from 9.

Electric Fields received points from 13 voting nations, while Serbia also only received points form 8.

Slovenia, which qualified in 9th place in 2024, also had fewer nations vote for them (12).

Australia received a lot of lower scores

Go-Jo's highest points were from Latvia and Lithuania with 6 points.

He also received 5 points from Finland, UK and Malta.

His Armenian competitor received 12 points from Georgia and Israel plus 8 points from France and Greece.

It was similar for Electric Fields, who received 5 points from Ukraine, Finland and UK.

While Serbia that year was lucky enough to get 12 points from Croatia and 10 points from Slovenia.

How do we get higher points?

That is the million-dollar question!

Ultimately, to qualify, we'll need to find a way to be scoring 8 points and above from several countries.

For a nation like Australia, we have to work harder to get points without traditional voting partners.

It is something nations like Malta, Czechia and Ireland struggle with.

However, they have all qualified in recent years and Australia won its semi in 2023. It can be done.

Finding a way to stand out and have a unique selling point is often about who else you are up against.

Promotion is one thing, and Go-Jo's presence in Latvia and Lithuania no doubt helped us get more higher points this year (Five nations gave us 5 points or more compared to three in 2024).

But ultimately, it will always come to do a full package that works in the semi-final we are in.

There may be various small reasons behind the result, but the data doesn't lie.

Australia must find a way to be at least loved by a few rather than liked by many.

It's a hard code to crack, but here's hoping we'll be back in 2026 to find out.
